TEMPE– It is only the second full week of 2024 and the honors for the No. 1-ranked Sun Devil men are already beginning.

After competing in his first meet of the season on Saturday, sophomore Zalan Sarkany has been named the men's Pac-12 Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon. The Sun Devil star made an impact in the Sun Devil men's 232-66 win over GCU on Saturday, January 6 at home.

Sarkany won the 1650 free and 500 free against the Lopes. His time of 14:28.09 broke his own program record and currently leads thre nation. His time is also an A-cut for NCAA qualifications. En route to breaking the 1650 free record, he additionally broke the 1000 free record with a time of 8:46.42.
He additionally won the 500 free as he set a personal best with a time of 4:15.02 and his 400 free relay took third.

This is Sarkany's first Pac-12 Weekly/Monthly award of his career as he begins his sophomore campaign with the Sun Devils. Last season, Sarkany was a Pac-12 champion in the 1650 free  and was eighth in that event at the NCAA Championships as he was named an All-American in that event.

Saturday's meet with the Lopes marked the end of home meets for the Sun Devils in 2023-24 as they will be on the road for the rest of the season beginning with a pair of conference meets with Stanford (January 19) and Cal (January 20).
