TEMPE– Arizona State Lacrosse (5-6, 1-2) has a pair of games this week to open up play in the month of April. The Sun Devils will first conclude their road trip against Detroit Mercy (3-8, 2-1), and then return home to face the University of California (4-7, 1-2).

The non-conference road matchup against Detroit Mercy is slated for Tuesday, April 2 at 9 a.m. MST and can be viewed on ESPN+. ASU is back in Tempe to face Cal in the Pac-12 dual on Saturday, April 6 at 12 p.m. MST in the team's PT42 recognition game. That will be broadcast on Pac-12 Arizona.

Sun Devil Outlook:
Last weekend, ASU took on No. 20 Stanford, and was downed 20-8 after a 10-goal third quarter allowed the Cardinal to take charge. Despite the loss, junior goalkeeper Katie Vahle tallied 12 saves, which marked her third game of 10+ saves this season. Stanford was the team's fifth ranked opponent of the season. The team previously faced No. 9 Michigan, No. 11 Florida, and No. 17 at home, and dropped a game to No. 11 Stony Brook on the road.

Scouting the Opponent:
Detroit Mercy: The Titans have played just three of their 11 games at home this season, and have a 2-1 record at Titan Field. Detroit Mercy is currently riding a three-game winning streak, averaging 14 goals per game during this time. The two teams have met once before in program history, ASU coming out on top 24-6 on February 14, 2020 in their dominant road win.

California: Like ASU, California has lost their last two games to Pac-12 opponents, though last weekend, they nearly knocked off USC, but fell in the final five minutes of the game. They have just one road win in four contests, which came against Oregon in their 8-7 win in Eugene. California sits just below ASU in the current Pac-12 standings.

Sun Devil Notables:
  • ASU's next win would tie their 2023 season total.
  • A win over Detroit Mercy would have junior goalkeeper Katie Vahle in sole possession of  the program's all-time career wins at 21. She is currently tied with Berkeley Bonneau with 20 wins apiece.
  • After one goal against Stanford, graduate attacker Shannon Urey is two points away from 200 in her career.
  • Zoe Mazur's 8.36 draw controls per game are the 8th-best individual mark in the NCAA.
