SEATTLE – Sun Devil softball dropped the second game of its three-game series with No. 5 Washington 4-0 on a cold, wet, and windy afternoon at Husky Softball Stadium. The game was delayed for 57 minutes in the second inning as a hail and wind storm blew through the stadium.
Arizona State was limited to just four singles on the day. They got two from Audrey LeClair and one from Kayla Lissy and Sara Kinch. Despite the limited number of hits, ASU had runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings and again in the sixth.
Deborah Jones made her second straight start in the circle for the Sun Devils. In four innings, she held the Huskies to two runs on four hits with a season-best six strikeouts. Mac Osborne worked the final two innings with two strikeouts and two runs allowed.
Jones worked out of trouble in the bottom of the first forcing a flyout with the bases loaded to end the inning. After Brooke Nelson doubled in the first at-bat following the delay, Jones tallied consecutive strikeouts to strand her at second.
Washington opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Huskies then added two more in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two-run home run from Alana Johnson.
