FEDERAL WAY, Wash.- Back-to-back as leaders of the Pac!
 
For the second year in a row, Sun Devil Men's Swim and Dive are Pac-12 champions, as they put the finishing touches on a magical week in Federal Way at the Weyerhaeuser Aquatic Center.
 
They won 16 times this week, broke 11 school records and three NCAA records as they never looked back holding on to first place all week.  The Sun Devils took first by over 303 points with their total points marking the second-highest in conference history since California in 1995.

Hubert Kós delivered a historic performance in the 200 back, winning the event at 1:35.69, which is now the fastest time ever. It's his third individual win of the week (100 back and 200 IM). He's also been a member of a winning relay this week, as he was a part of the 400 medley relay.

Zalan Sarkany opened the evening winning the 1650 free for the second year in a row swimming a time of 14:23.01. His time not only set a school and meet record, but also broke a conference record set back in 2012. Daniel Matheson joined Sarkany on the podium with a third-place finish time of 14:44.85 is the 11th fastest in the country this season.
 
Léon Marchand won the ninth individual event of his career in the 200 breast, clocking in a time of 1:48.60. He was also the winner of the 500 free, which he set an NCAA record in, along with the 400 IM. He additionally was a part of three winning relays (400 free relay, 400 medley and 200 medley relay), setting an NCAA record in the 200 medley relay. For his efforts, he was named the Pac-12 Swimmer of the Meet for the third year in a row.
 
Capping off individual event wins for the Sun Devils was Ilya Kharun, who won the 200 fly with a time of 1:38.64. The freshman swept the fly events in his first-ever conference championships and was a part of each of the four relay wins for the Sun Devils.
 
The Sun Devils had a number of podium finishes on Day 4, including Owen McDonald (2nd/200 back), Jack Dolan (2nd/100 free), Patrick Sammon (3rd/100 free), David Schlicht (2nd/200 breast), Cale Martter (3rd/200 breast) and Alex Colson (2nd/200 fly). 
 
A couple of Sun Devils added top-10 finishes as well, including Reece Grady (6th/1650 free), Jack Wadsworth (10th/200 back), Julian Hill (10th/100 free), Andy Dobrzanski (5th/200 breast) and Filip Senc-Samardzic (10th/200 fly).
 
The 400 free relay of Marchand-Dolan-Kharun-Kulow capped the Sun Devils off with their fifth relay win of the week, swimming a meet and school record time of 2:44.23 in the final event. Marchand's opening split of 40.90 set a school record.

RECORD BOARD MAINTENANCE
The record board at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center is soon to undergo some serious maintenance given what the Sun Devils did this week in Federal Way.
 
On Saturday alone, four school records were broken, but the Sun Devils set 11 new program-best times:

MORNING PRELIMS
The Sun Devil men came ready out of the gates on the final day's prelims with three qualifying for the 200 back final. McDonald (1st) and Kós (2nd) each qualified for the A final with Wadsworth (9th) qualifying for the B final.
 
Six more qualified for a 100 free final on Saturday evening, led by Jack Dolan (1st), who swam a school record time of 41.38. Jonny Kulow (2nd), Patrick Sammon (4th), Cam Peel (9th), Julian Hill (10th) and Jackson Schuster (18th) rounded ou the top-20.
 
In the 200 breast prelims, David Schlicht (1st) led the way with Cale Martter (2nd), Léon Marchand (3rd) and Andy Dobrzanski (4th) all qualifying for the A final.
 
Three finished in the top-12 in the 200 fly prelims, led by Ilya Kharun (1st) followed by Alex Colson (3rd) and Filip Senc-Samardzic (12th).
 
 
DIVING
Though it was just Sun Devil men's swim up in Federal Way, the Sun Devils received 57 points from the diving competition that went on last week.
 
Zachory Lundgren was the top Sun Devil men's diver, taking fourth place in the finals of the platform dive last Friday. He also had a ninth-place finish in the 3-meter and was 11th in the 1-meter.
 
Two years ago, Sun Devil dive comprised of just Lundgren and fellow senior Thomas Wesche. With the additions of Caleb Liban and Lane Stallworth last year, the Sun Devil men added on 10 points to what they scored at the Pac-12 Championships a season ago.
 
Up Next
All four Sun Devil men's divers will compete at the NCAA Zone E qualifier up north in Flagstaff from March 11-13.
 
For the 2024 NCAA Men's Swimming Championships, competition will commence on March 27 in Indianapolis and will conclude March 30.
