TEMPE – In the annual Homecoming game, Sun Devil Football (2-6, 1-5 Pac-12) took down Washington State (4-4, 1-4 Pac-12) at Mountain America Stadium, 38-27, on Saturday night. Arizona State's first Pac-12 win of the season is also the first for head coach Kenny Dillingham.
ASU gained a season-high 509 yards and outgained the Cougars by 106 yards. They finished with 235 yards on the ground, which is its most against an FBS opponent since Nov. 13, 2021, against Washington.
"The guys really took some ownership, and it's showing up. This is definitely different than anything I've ever done offensively," Dillingham said. "It all comes down to the guys on our team, and I couldn't be happier for how they executed tonight."
Arizona State started the game by scoring touchdowns on three of its first four possessions. They were countered by a Washington State offense that found the end zone on three of five first-half possessions. Dario Longhetto hit a 51-yard field goal as time expired on the half to give ASU a 24-21 lead at intermission.
Using the momentum of that kick, ASU went 75 yards on 12 plays to start the third and opened a 31-21 advantage with a 6-yard rushing touchdown from Elijhah Badger. WSU scored its first points of the second half with a 31-yard field goal as time expired on the third quarter.
DeCarlos Brooks scored his third touchdown of the contest to open the fourth quarter on a drive that lasted 1:05 and covered 75 yards on just three plays. The Cougars added another field goal with 8:33 to play to cap the scoring. They drove the field late, but Ed Woods had great coverage on a late fourth-down stop, as the Cougars had first and goal at the six but gave uip the ball on downs.
Cam Skattebo led the team with 121 rushing yards – his most as a Sun Devil – with a career-long 66-yard run in the second quarter. He scored his seventh touchdown of the season to cap the scoring drive.
Brooks scored three touchdowns on the ground while gaining 67 yards rushing.
Trenton Bourguet threw for 274 yards and completed 73 percent of his passes to lead the Sun Devils to their first home victory over WSU since 2019. He completed 19 of 26 passes and connected with nine different receivers.
Jalin Conyers made four catches for 90 yards and moved into sixth in program history for receptions by a tight end with 68. Elijah Badger also tallied four catches for 60 yards, with Troy Omeire gaining 42 yards on his four grabs.
The Sun Devil defense accounted for three sacks and eight tackles-for-loss in the win. B.J. Green had 1.5 sacks and 2.5 TFLs, with Clayton Smith adding a career-high 1.5 sacks as well. Chris Edmonds and Tate Romney led the Sun Devils with eight tackles each, which matches Romney's career high.

WSU punted on consecutive drives, with an ASU missed field goal mixed in, before ASU responded with 7:14 in the second quarter as Brooks scored his second touchdown on a 1-yard rush to put the Sun Devils ahead 14-7.
Ward rushed for 11 yards for a Cougar touchdown to tie the game 14-14 with 4:47 left in the first half. After Skattebo's 66-yard run and ensuing touchdown put ASU back in front with 2:15 left in the half, WSU responded with a touchdown of its own as Ward connected with Lincoln Victor on a 9-yard pass to tie the game once again at 21-21.
The Sun Devils will travel to Salt Lake City next Saturday, Nov. 4, to face No. 13 Utah, with kickoff set for 11 a.m. AZT/Noon MDT. Next weekend's contest with the Utes will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
