TEMPE, Ariz. – It was a mighty victory for the Sun Devil Women's Swim team in which they won every race of the dual over Washington State on Saturday afternoon at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.

Charli Brown, Lindsay Looney and Ieva Maluka led the way to the team victory to kick off the spring, teaming up for six of 14 wins.

HOW IT HAPPENED

400 Meter Medley Relay
The Sun Devil Women began the dual meet by taking the top-two spots in the relay to open the afternoon. Charli BrownIza Adame–Lindsay Looney–Erin Milligan went 4:09.53 to grab first as Zoe SummarEmma Gehlert–Jade Foelske–Leva Maluka trailed just behind at 4:17.68 to take runner-up. It was a sign of what the Sun Devils had in store for the Cougars.

800 Meter Freestyle
Continuing the momentum, the longest event of the day featured a Sun Devil Sweep, finishing 1-2-3 in the event. Freshman Katherine Randall swam a 9:02.08, 11 seconds ahead of runner-up finisher Elli Straume who swam 9:13.39 and Mackenzie Nedom finishing with a 9:18.9 respectively to round out the event, all grabbing crucial points for the Sun Devils.

200 Meter Freestyle
For the second event in a row, ASU Swept the event taking the top-four positions. Lindsay Looney took the race with a 2:00.94, followed by Molly Batchelor finishing with a 2:02.88, Erin Milligan swimming a 2:05.51 and Laura Garcia rounding out the top-4 with a 2:08.42 to out race the opposition.

100 Meter Freestyle
The Sun Devils succeeded in the freestyle as Brown swam a 1:02.18 to take 1st in the event. Following her was Hana Edwards with a 1:05.53 and closely behind by two-tenths of a second was Katrina Marty with a 1:05.75 to place third.

100 Meter Breaststroke
Continuing to show their speed, the Sun Devils took the top four positions with Sophomore Iza Adame finishing in first in 1:09.48, following her was fellow Sun Devils Izza Krantzcke placing 2nd with a 1:12.15, Ginger McMahon swimming a 1:12.48 and Emma Gehlert finishing fourth with a 1:13.76, all claiming points for the Sun Devils. After five events the Sun Devil women were leading over the Cougars 64-9.

200 Meter Butterfly
Linsday Looney was the highlight of the butterfly as the Texas native swam a 2:08.81 to take the top position in the event. It was the seventh event a Sun Devil has won on the day so far through the meet. Jade Foelske closely followed to claim third with a 2:15.57 to grab points for the team.

50 Meter Freestyle
The quickest event of the afternoon featured the Sun Devil women going 1-2 in the event. While being spread out by about two-tenths of a second, Erin Milligan took the race with a 26.39 followed by Natalia Fryckowska who swam a 26.57. 

100 Meter Freestyle
Following a 15-minute break, Ieva Maluka finished 56.44 to take the event to make it the eighth victory for the Sun Devil women on the day. After the eighth event, the Sun Devil women led the Cougars 119-31.

200 Meter Backstroke
The backstroke event showed off the depth of the Sun Devils with the women taking the top-3 positions as Brown won her third event of the day with a time of 2:16.26. Following her was  Edwards finishing with a 2:20.59, then closely behind was Gatzke who swam a 2:21.94 to finish third respectively.

200 Meter Breaststroke
Adame took her third race of the afternoon with a time of 2:36.25, the event was tight from the start as Izzy Krantzcke took third place with a time of 2:38.25 to round out the points for the Sun Devils. 

400 Meter Freestyle
The first middle-distance event featured the third time of the afternoon where the women were able to secure the top-4 spots. Molly Batchelor from Australia swam a 4:21.32 to take the race, following her was Randall with a 4:24.99. Elli Straume placed third with a 4:31.60 as Laura Garcia followed behind with a 4:31.83.

100 Meter Butterfly
The fierce butterfly event featured Jade Foelske coming in first place with a time of 1:01.17, making it the 12th event ASU won on the day. Katrina Marty and Ginger McMahon took 2nd and third as both swimmers grew the Sun Devil lead to 130 heading into the final break.

200 Meter IM
Returning from the last intermission the Sun Devils claimed the top two spots in the IM event, as Maluka won her second event of the day with a time of 2:18.94. Jade Foelske came in a close second with a time of 2:22.83 to round out the points for ASU.

400 Meter Freestyle Relay
The final event featured a true Sun Devil sweep as the women's swim team was able to secure victory in every race on the day. Erin Milligan–Lindsay Looney–Leva Maluka–Charli Brown swam a 3:48.19 to victory, as Molly Batchelor–Hannah HurlemanElli StraumeIndigo Armon finished at 3:53.39 as the Sun Devil women secured their first victory of the season 206-56 over the Cougars.

UP NEXT
The Sun Devil Women's swim team will look to continue its momentum alongside the No. 1 Sun Devil Men against Stanford on Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. MST at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. It's the first of two duals next weekend, as they'll welcome the California Golden Bears the following afternoon.
