Bobby Hurley and the Sun Devil men's basketball team will start their season on Nov. 7. With non-conference matchups including trips to 2022 NCAA Tournament teams Texas Southern and San Francisco as well as to SMU, Arizona State will once again be challenged early in the year. The Sun Devils will play 13 games before the holidays, including seven games away from home.
Beginning with a Dec. 31 home showdown with Arizona, the Maroon & Gold will play 18-straight games against Pac-12 foes to finish the season as part of the 20-game conference slate. All 31 of Arizona State's games will be televised, with Coach Hurley's squad making appearances on ESPN, FOX, CBS, and Pac-12 Network in addition to several major network affiliates.

MONDAY, NOV. 7 VS. TARLETON STATE
ASU will open its season vs. WAC member Tarleton State, who played 16 road games last year, went 9-9 in conference play and are coached by former Texas A&M and Kentucky coach Billy Gillespie. Last year Tarleton played at Stanford, Kansas, Wichita State, Michigan and Gonzaga. It will mark the second-earliest opening game in Sun Devil history. Here are a ton of notes on ASU season openers.

ASU will meet VCU, who has made nine of the past 11 NCAA Tournaments and has won at least 18 games in the past 21 seasons.
THURSDAY, NOV. 17 VS. PITT OR MICHIGAN AT LEGENDS CLASSIC (BROOKLYN, NY)
ASU and Michigan have met three times, as ASU defeated Michigan 79-62 on Nov. 22, 1994, at the Maui Invitational in the last meeting. ASU has never played Pitt.
TUESDAY, NOV. 22 VS. GRAMBLING
ASU and Grambling have met just once, with ASU winning in Tempe 97-55 on Dec. 14, 2013. Shaquielle McKissic had 19 points off the bench to lead ASU, while Jermaine Marshall added 16.
SUNDAY, NOV. 27 VS. ALCORN STATE
ASU won the only meeting 86-74 on Nov. 26, 2005. Kevin Kruger and Bryson Krueger each had 21 off the bench to lead ASU, who trailed 39-37 at the half.
THURSDAY, DEC. 1 AT COLORADO
ASU will open Pac-12 play on the road for the sixth time in the past nine seasons and for the tenth time in the past 15 seasons at the sight of one of its better games in 2021-22. ASU led by as many as 26 in the second half en route to an 82-65 win at Colorado on Feb. 25, 2022, topping a Buffalo team that had won five straight. ASU shot .552 (16-of-29) in the second half, made 9-of-17 (.529) from three and 13-of-15 (.867) from the free throw line for the game and out-rebounded Colorado 38-26 to cruise to the win. Luther Muhammad (season-high 15 points) came off the bench and led ASU to a 35-15 advantage in bench points. CU's biggest lead was 5-0 just two minutes into the tilt and there were five ties 10 minutes into the game, but ASU took a 17-16 lead with 8:55 left in first half and never looked back. It raced out to a leads of 25-16 (7:26) and 37-24 (1:19) and didn't let up in the second half, going up 72-46 on a three-pointer with just under seven minutes remaining. Between the end of the first half (5:37) and the start of the second half (2:07) ASU held the Buffs without a field goal for 7:44.

ASU continues a fun series it has had in the Bobby Hurley era when it takes on Creighton. The teams split a four-game series recently, with each team winning both road games, as ASU won 58-57 on Dec. 14, 2021 and also won at Creighton 79-77 on Dec. 2, 2015. The teams have split a dozen games and have played each other six times in the past 10 seasons.

Steve Lavin leads San Diego into Tempe and the teams have only met twice, with ASU winning 89-79 on Dec. 29, 2003, and 59-56 on Jan. 4, 1992.

ASU leads the series 6-5 and the two went toe-to-toe on Dec. 19, 2021, with the 2022 NCAA Tournament bound San Francisco Dons (11-1). ASU lost a tough one, 66-65, in a tight contest that saw six lead changes in the final minutes. USF went 24-10 last year and went to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1997-98 and has averaged 20 wins the past six seasons and notched three straight 20-win seasons (2016-19) for the first time since 1978-82. One of the best wins in school history took place vs. USF as ASU beat No. 5 San Francisco 89-70 in Tempe on Dec. 3, 1977. Arizona State begins an 18-game stretch of Pac-12 Conference play with a matchup against Arizona at Desert Financial Arena. The Sun Devils have defeated the Wildcats twice at home under Bobby Hurley, picking up wins in 2019 and 2020. Those two games drew crowds of 14,731 and 13,500 respectively, with the home court advantage making an impact.
THURSDAY, JAN. 5 VS. WASHINGTON STATE
The first two games after the New Year are at home, as the Sun Devils host the Washington schools for the first of two January matchups. Washington State comes to Tempe on Thursday, Jan. 5 following a year in which the two teams split the season series. Arizona State has won eight of their last 11 games against the Cougars at home.
SUNDAY, JAN. 8 VS. WASHINGTON
The lone Sunday Pac-12 game of the season for the Sun Devils comes on Jan. 8 when they match up with Washington. Arizona State is victorious in five of the last six matchups at home against Washington. This will be the Huskies first appearance at Desert Financial since Feb. 2021, as they did not make the trip to Tempe last season.
THURSDAY, JAN. 12 AT OREGON
The Sun Devils return to the site where they picked up a hard-fought victory last season, heading back to Matthew Knight Arena for the first road trip of 2023. Last season in Eugene, DJ Horne hit a clutch late three-pointer to send the game to overtime as part of his 23 points. It marked the 29th halftime comeback win for ASU in Hurley's tenure, as Arizona State defeated Oregon 69-67. It was their first road win over Oregon since January 1, 2011.
SATURDAY, JAN. 14 AT OREGON STATE
In the second leg of the road trip, the Sun Devils head to Corvallis for a Jan. 14 matchup with Oregon State. Arizona State has won 21 of the past 27 games in the series, including two of their last three on the road.
THURSDAY, JAN. 19 VS. UCLA
Arizona State will host UCLA for the first time since the Sun Devils upset the No. 3 Bruins on Feb. 6, 2022. ASU outlasted UCLA in triple overtime for the third victory over a AP Top-3 ranked team in the Bobby Hurley era.

The first repeat matchups of the season will take place in the Pacific Northwest, with Arizona State travelling to the Washington schools. The only matchup between the programs last season also came in Seattle. Arizona State has won six of the past nine games overall in the series.
SATURDAY, JAN. 28 AT WASHINGTON STATE
Arizona State returns to the site in which they avenged a home loss with an impressive 58-55 win over Washington State last season. They return to Pullman on Jan. 28, where they have won three of their past five games. Arizona State holds a 15-7 advantage in the series over the past 22 games.
THURSDAY, FEB. 2 VS. OREGON STATE
The Oregon schools make the return trip, with Arizona State first taking on Oregon State on Feb. 2. The Sun Devils have not lost to the Beavers at home since Jan. 1, 2007, a streak of 13 straight victories. In the only matchup between the two teams last season, ASU forced 19 turnovers and used a balance offensive attack to defeat OSU 73-53.

The one and only matchup with California will take place in Berkeley on Feb. 11. Arizona State has enjoyed recent success against the Golden Bears, winning eight of the past nine games in the series. Colorado makes the return trip to Tempe for the second matchup of the season with the Sun Devils. From 2013-19, Arizona State went 7-0 at home against the Buffaloes.
SATURDAY, FEB. 18 VS. UTAH
The lone matchup with Utah will take place on Feb. 18, as Arizona State does not make the trip to Salt Lake City this season. ASU will celebrate it's seniors prior to the final home game. The Sun Devils swept the season series last year, giving them four wins over the past five games in the series. ASU secured a pair of two-point victories over the Utes in 2022, including their third win in Salt Lake City in the last four tries.
SATURDAY, FEB. 25 AT ARIZONA
The Sun Devils finish the season with a tough three-game road trip. CBS will broadccast the rivalry game between Arizona State and Arizona in Tucson on Feb. 25. Coach Hurley's squad defeated the Wildcats, 72-64, on the road in the 2019 matchup, completing the season sweep that year.
THURSDAY, MARCH 2 AT UCLA
Arizona State makes the return trip to the Los Angeles schools, first taking on UCLA on March 2. During a four-game stretch from 2018-20, the Sun Devils went 4-0 against the Bruins. The two teams have played extremely close games lately, with four of the past five outcomes seperated by a margin of six points or less.
SATURDAY, MARCH 4 AT USC
ASU wraps up the regular season with a road contest against USC on March 4. The Sun Devils will be looking for their first win on the road in the series since 2015.
