TEMPE – Three Sun Devils are within arm's reach of cracking NHL rosters. Josh Maniscalco, Colin Theisen and Jacob Wilson were all named to the veterans training camp roster of their respective NHL teams today, with clubs' camps opening this week. Theisen hits the ice tomorrow with the Arizona Coyotes, and Wilson continues his run with the Boston Bruins. Maniscalco and the Pittsburgh Penguins start Thursday. All three are one-week removed from NHL rookie camp with their teams. Maniscalco signed a three-year entry level contract with the Pens on Aug. 21, 2020.

"We couldn't be more proud of Josh, Jacob and Colin," head coach Greg Powers said. They are incredibly high-character kids, who were unreal leaders for our program. It's of no surprise to anyone at ASU that all three of them are at NHL main camps."

Theisen turned heads at rookie camp last week. Tucson Roadrunners (AHL) head coach Steve Potvin led the Coyotes rookie camp and continues to be impressed by Theisen. The former ASU captain wore the 'A' on Monday Sept. 19 in Jack McBain's absence, and Potvin said he has impressed since making his professional debut with the AHL's Tucson Roadrunners last season (11 points, 16 games).

"Theisen, he was coming in as a first-year player last year with us in the American Hockey League, and honestly, it was like he was a five-year vet," Potvin said. "You could put him in any position on any line, and he'd make that line go."

Wilson also donned the 'A' while playing in the Bruins' camp last weekend but neither he nor Theisen featured on the weekend scoresheets.

Maniscalco has been improving his game in the minors and splitting time between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL) and Wheeling Nailers (ECHL). He's played 74 games between the two clubs.

"Nothing's given and everything's earned."

Penguins D prospect Josh Maniscalco is ready to take the next step in his development after a "big learning experience" in Wheeling last season.
