BOSTON - Sun Devil Hockey's Jacob Wilson (Ballwin, Missouri) earned a spot on the Boston Bruins' 2022 Prospects Challenge roster, the club announced today. The camp runs September 15-19 at LECOM HarborCenter in Buffalo, New York. Wilson, a defenseman, signed a one-year AHL contract with Boston's Providence Bruins back on March 16. The Bruins' rookies will compete against the Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Ottawa Senators' rookies in the round-robin challenge featuring prospects from each team. The participating teams will each play three games during the course of the event, which is being held entirely at the HarborCenter.
Wilson was one of six Sun Devils to sign a professional contract after last season. The six, including four forwards and two defensemen, set the record for the most professional contracts signed after a season in program history. The six join 17 fellow Sun Devils who continued their playing careers in a professional capacity after skating for ASU:
Colin Theisen - Tucson Roadrunners (AHL) - Theisen featured in the Coyotes' Rookie Camp
Jacob Wilson - Providence Bruins (AHL)
Johnny Walker - Utah Grizzlies (ECHL)
Tim Theocharidis - Adirondack Thunder (ECHL)
Jack Becker - Idaho Steelheads (ECHL)
Willie Knierim - Idaho Steelheads (ECHL)
Wilson served as the Sun Devils alternate captain during the 2019-20 season before being named captain of the club ahead of the 2020-21 campaign. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound, right-handed defenseman played junior hockey in the United States Hockey League with the Sioux City Musketeers, serving as an alternate captain in 2015-16 before serving as captain in 2016-17. He skated in 144 career games with Sioux City, recording 59 points with 16 goals and 43 assists.
