Doubleheader Victories for Softball in Day 1 of Judi Garman

Fullerton, Calif.– Arizona State softball (11-4) opened its second straight road trip of the season with back-to-back victories in its first day of the Judi Garman Classic. The Sun Devils scored a total of 18 runs in 24 hits and six home runs over Kansas and Cal Poly.
 
No. 23 ASU tallied nine hits and two home runs in a 9-1 (5 inn.) run-rule win against Kansas (8-8) Friday morning. Redshirt freshman Kristiana Watson led the way for the Sun Devils with her fourth home run of the season and had three RBIs for the game.
 
California native and true freshman, Cydney Sanders hit her third home run of the season off the Jayhawks. Sanders wouldn't be done for the day as she would go on to hit another solo home run to begin the game against the Mustangs and a grand slam in the fifth inning to solidify the win against Cal Poly.
 
Freshman Mac Morgan earned the start against Kansas - pitching a complete game and earning her sixth win of the season with 70 pitches. 
 
After a quick break during the day, the Sun Devils went back to action on Friday evening, Arizona State (11-4) faced Cal Poly (0-13) to finish off the doubleheader with a 9-4 win that included 15 hits and four home runs to lead ASU to victory.
 
Senior Yannira Acuña hit a perfect 3-for-3 with her second home run of the season and two RBIs. Emily Cazares joined Acuña and Sanders with another home run against Cal Poly, making it her second of the season.
 
How It Happened
 
Game 1- Arizona State 9, Kansas 1

• Kristiana Watson hit a three-run home run to give the Sun Devils a 3-0 advantage after the first inning. 
• Bella Loomis hit an RBI single to bring in Halle Harger, then Jazmine Hill hit a sac-fly with Makenna Harper running home to extend the ASU lead to five runs through four innings.
• The hits continued going into the fifth inning for the Sun Devils. Sanders hit a solo home run to extend the lead 6-0. Harger bunted to advance the runners which scored Alynah Torres from third base, and McLemore cleared the bases with an RBI double that scored two more runs making it 9-0. 
• Morgan only needed 70 pitches to give ASU their 10th win of the season.

Game 2- Arizona State 9 , Cal Poly 4

• Back-to-back home runs by Yanni Acuña and Cydney Sanders gave Arizona State an early 2-0 lead after the first inning.
• Cal Poly struck back with a three-run home run to take a 3-2 lead in the 2nd inning.
• Harger hit an RBI double to tie the game in the second inning, where Yanni Acuña would later bring Harger in to give ASU a 4-3 lead after two innings of play.
• After two scoreless innings, Cal Poly tied the game at 4-4 with a fielding error by the Sun Devils in the 4th inning.
• Emily Cazares hit a lead-off home run to give ASU a 5-4 advantage, while Sanders smashed a grand slam to make it a five-run game going into the seventh inning with a 9-4 lead.
• Marissa Schuld relieved Royalty in the fourth inning, striking out three and earning her third win of the season.
