SEATTLE – Ja'Tavia Tapley scored a game-high 15 points to help lead the No. 18 Arizona State women's basketball team to a 67-50 win over Washington on Friday.
Jamie Ruden added 10 points with fellow seniors Reili Richardson (nine points) and Robbi Ryan (eight points) combining for 17 points for the Sun Devils, who won their fourth game in a row. All of Richardson's points came from beyond the arc where the senior guard was 3-of-3. Also striking multiple times from downtown were Ryan (2-3) and Taya Hanson (2-4). As a team, the Sun Devils knocked down eight triples.
ASU (14-4, 4-2 Pac-12) connected on 50 percent of its shots and outrebounded the Huskies 33-27. Kiara Russell paced ASU with seven rebounds while Tapley and Jayde Van Hyfte grabbed five boards each.
Ryan (four assists), Hanson (three assists), Richardson (three assists) and Tapley (three assists) combined for 13 of ASU's 19 assists, which tied the second-highest single-game assist total for ASU this season.
On the defensive end, ASU held an opponent to 50 or fewer points for the second straight game and the sixth time this season. The Huskies shot only 33 percent for the game and were forced into 18 turnovers which resulted in 20 Sun Devil points.
Tapley came out with the hot hand, hitting 5-of-6 shots and scoring 10 points in the first quarter to help the Sun Devils to an early 15-7 lead.
Ruden and Eboni Walker tied for the team lead with four points each in the second quarter as the Sun Devils eventually took a 30-18 lead to the locker room. Defensively, ASU allowed Washington to shoot only 22 percent in the first half.
The Huskies (10-6, 2-3) would get as close as eight points early in fourth quarter, but the Sun Devils would respond with a 17-6 run to take their largest lead of the game, 65-46, after Richardson's 3-pointer with 3:18 remaining in the contest.
