TEMPE, Ariz. – To kick off the 2020 season, No. 20 Arizona State beach volleyball will hold its annual Maroon and Gold Scrimmage on Friday at 5 p.m. MST at the PERA Club.
The Sand Devils will preview the 2020 squad in the scrimmage with a dual match. Below are the teams and pairs that will compete. On the maroon team, Cierra Flood and Lauren Weintraub will compete twice.
The team includes 13 returners and eight newcomers, including one transfer junior. A lot of returners are all across the ASU record books. Senior Katelyn Carballo now has 52 career wins, putting her in third. Behind her senior Ellyson Lundberg (50), juniors Kate Baldwin (44), Samantha Plaster (44) and Cierra Flood (34). Of the top 10 in career individual wins, five are on the 2020 roster.
Arizona State is ranked No. 20 in the AVCA Coaches Poll to start the season. Last year, the Sun Devils ended the season ranked No. 20 after a strong performance in the Pac-12 Championship, finishing in fourth for the first time.
