The best freshman men's golfer in the Pac-12 last year served notice he is ready for a great sophomore year as Cameron Sisk's individual title helped lead the Sun Devil men's golf team to the Maui Jim Intercollegiate title held at Mirabel Golf Club in Scottsdale.
Sisk, the 2019 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, shot 14-under 196 (64-67-65) to lead ASU to its fifth team title in its past nine tournaments. He posted 18 birdies on the weekend. and now has 17 rounds in the 60s in his career.
ASU also got strong performances and ties for third at 9-under 201 from senior Chun An Yu (65-68-68) and junior Won Jun Lee, who sandwiched two 5-under 65s around a 71.
"This was just an all-around awesome week for us," said fifth-year Sun Devil head coach Matt Thurmond, last season's Pac-12 Coach of the Year. "There are so many cool things to talk about. Cam (Sisk) was unbeatable. I knew that type of performance would come from him and it's pretty cool to start the season with it. Won Jun Lee shot 65 in both the first and last rounds and didn't have a bogey in either, that is amazing. Kevin (Chun An Yu) was his usual awesome self, and if a couple things go his way he's right there with Cam."
ASU (262-271-269=802/-38) started the day tied for second a shot back of Arizona (268-264-277=809/-31), but its 11-under 269 was five shots clear of anyone else as it notched the seven-stroke win over Arizona and nine-shot margin over third-place Clemson (265-268-278=811/-29).
"While we were winning at Mirabel our other five were playing over at Desert Forest in a 36-player individual event. Alex (del Rey) tied for that title and shot a 64 in the second round. Ryggs (Johnston) finished third in his first collegiate event. Blake (Wagoner) was fifth, and Koichiro (Ishika) finished seventh. Those guys played awesome over there and really stepped up. I can say that seven of our ten guys had great weeks and that's very hard to do in this sport."

"Our team is really deep this year," add Thurmond. "Each guy is pushing everyone else with their hard work and competitiveness. We aren't worrying much about results and rankings and just focusing on our keys to success and development. We did a great job of being all we want to be this week. Last year we had a chance to win this thing going into the final nine, but sort of let off the gas. This year we brought the heat all the way to the end. The fires me up."
