Seniors Blake Wagoner and Alex del Rey punched their tickets to the round of 32 at the 119th U.S. Amateur being held at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in North Carolina.
Wagoner defeated Canada's Chris Cosologo 2 and 1 as he posted three birdies and won all of those holes, winning six holes total.
In the afternoon, del Rey won five of the first six holes in defeating North Carolina's Austin Hitt 5 and 4. Hitt had tied for ninth in stroke play with an even par 140 (70-70).
Next up on Thursday Wagoner will meet Cohen Trolio at 8:20 a.m. (ET) while del Rey faces Stanford's Isaiah Salinda at 9:50 a.m. (ET).
Wagoner tied for 28th in the stroke play with a 3-over 143 (68-75), while del Rey shot 4-over 144 (72-72) and tied for 44th.
Wagoner, from Cornelius, N.C., tied for eighth at the 2019 Players Amateur (July 9-14) held in South Carolina with a 14-under 274 (70-64-71-69) and has played in 38 collegiate events entering his senior season (117 rounds) and has a 72.44 stroke average with 22 rounds in the 60s and 55 rounds at par or better. He earned 2018 and 2019 Pac-12 First-Team All-Academic Selection.
A two-time winner in his three years at ASU, del Rey posted 10 eagles in sophomore year and nine in junior year of 2018-19. He earned second-team Pac-12 honors in 2018-19 after earning first-team honors in 2017-18. He was the Pac-12 Golfer of the Month in March of 2019 and earned the 2018 Eisenhower Trophy in Ireland with a 23-under 267, joining Jon Rahm (2014) as a Sun Devil to take home individual honors at the World Team Amateur.
His first collegiate title was Sept. 22-24 at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate held at Desert Forest Golf Club in Carefree, Ariz., and he won the 2019 National Invitational in Tucson (March 18-19) with a 17-under 199 (69-64-66), tied for the third-best 54-hole tournament result in past 26 years of Sun Devil golf.
