NORMAN, Okla. – Arizona State volleyball got back on track with a win over Georgia Tech in four sets (25-16, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21) in the last game of the OU Nike Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Sun Devils improved to 6-3 after taking down the Yellow Jackets (6-2). ASU finishes the OU Nike Invitational with two wins and a loss. Junior outside hitter Andrea Mitrovic and freshman middle blocker Kennedi Boyd earned all-tournament nods.

Notable Stats
  • Five Sun Devils notched seven or more kills in the win for a balanced attack. Mitrovic led the charge with 11 kills.
  • ASU had 13.0 team blocks, tied for a season-high.
  • Boyd had seven kills on a .545 clip, both of which are career highs for the freshman.
  • Senior libero Courtney Leffel continued her stellar defense this season, earning double-digit digs for the 14th match in a row with 13 digs.
  • Claire Kovensky led the team in digs with 14 to go along with her eight kills.
  • Callie Jones and Nicole Peterson both had 11 assists, while Noa Miller added nine.
  • Avital Jaloba led the team in blocks wirh five.

Set One: Arizona State 25, Georgia Tech 16
The first set started close. The teams traded runs of two and three, keeping it close. A few kills from Kovensky sparked one of ASU's 3-0 runs to go up 7-3 early. The Yellow Jackets responded to tie it at 14-14, but a kill from Mitrovic gave the Sun Devils back the lead. With Kovensky at the service line, ASU scored seven unanswered points, which included two kills and a block from Mitrovic, to take a huge 22-15 lead. A block from Jaloba and Jeremic teamed up for a block to win the set, 25-16.
 
Set Two: Arizona State 25, Georgia Tech 22
Georgia Tech took control early, going on a 7-0 run to lead 8-4. The lead extended to six until Arizona State put together five in a row, highlighted by two blocks from Jaloba, to get within one at 11-10. Mitrovic had two aces as she served ASU to six-straight points to take the lead, 18-14. Georgia Tech got back within two with Arizona State at set point, but a well-placed tip from Jeremic sealed the 25-22 win.

Set Three: Georgia Tech 25, Arizona State 22
The Sun Devils played the third set close to start before the Yellow Jackets went on a 7-0 run, putting them up 16-8. An ace from Callie Jones capped off three-straight points for ASU, cutting into the 16-11 deficit. A 5-1 run got Arizona State within two, but Georgia Tech held on to its lead, winning 25-22.
 
Set Four: Arizona State 25, Georgia Tech 21
The two teams kept it close in the fourth. The Yellow Jackets had the early lead until Jeremic's kill put the Sun Devils up 6-5. After falling behind, ASU scored four-straight points, including two blocks, to regain its lead, making it 16-14. Georgia Tech went on a 4-1 run to take a one-point lead, but Arizona State responded with four in a row, capped off by an ace from Kovensky. A kill from Boyd sealed the 25-21 win, clinching the match.
 
Up Next:
Arizona State's final non-conference tournament will be next week in Las Vegas at the Rebel Challenge. ASU will play UNLV on September 19 and Kansas on September 20.
