BATON ROUGE– The 2019 Sun Devil Baseball season came to an end Sunday with a 13-12 loss at the Baton Rouge Regional of the NCAA Baseball Tournament.
For the second consecutive game and 20thtime this season, the Sun Devil bats reached double digits in the run category. ASU recorded 14 hits and scored in four of the first five innings before the bats chilled over the final three innings. The top half of the ASU order was elite, combining for 11 hits and all 10 RBIs.
Spencer Torkelson led the way with a 3-for-5 day with three RBIs and his 23rdhome run of the season while coming a triple shy of the cycle. The total brought Torkelson to 48 home runs through the first two seasons of his ASU career, already good for third in ASU history and eight home runs shy of the Sun Devil school record.
Lyle Lin added his 10thgame of the season with three or more hits and a pair of RBIs. Alika Williams was 2-for-5 with three RBIs and Hunter Bishop and Trevor Hauver added two RBIs as well.
Several Sun Devils will look to the next levels of their careers this week, with the 2019 MLB Draft taking place from Monday through Wednesday with no shortage of Sun Devils expecting to hear their names called.
