TEMPE, Ariz. – As the No. 8 Sun Devil women's golf team has for the past several seasons, they will begin the spring season with a dual vs. the University of Denver on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 8 am at Superstition Mountain.
The Sun Devils and Pioneers will be playing Superstition Mountain's 7,225-yard, par-72 Prospector Course.
The course is one of four at the club and one of two designed by golf-great turned course designer Jack Nicklaus, along with his son Gary. The course opened in 1998 and has been site to the 2002 Countrywide Tradition tournament as well as the LPGA Safeway Invitational (2004-08).
The Prospector Golf Course was named one of Golfweek Magazine's "Top 100 Residential Courses".
At last season's dual, the Sun Devils earned the victory led by Olivia Mehaffey, who posted the lowest score of the competition for the Sun Devils (68). Sophia Zeeb (75), Madison Kerley (77), Roberta Liti (78), and Raquel Olmos (80) rounded out the Sun Devils' squad.
Over winter break, freshman and PING Junior Solheim Cup member Alessandra Fanali (Fiuggi, Italy) joined the Sun Devils in Tempe and at the end of 2018, head coach Missy Farr-Kaye signed two top-40 recruits to NLI's in Sweden's Linn Grant and Amanda Linner.
A busy fall season for Arizona State took them from Franklin, Tenn. to Stanford, Calif. and from Chicago to Hawai'i. The Devils' best finishes included back-to-back second place finishes at Vanderbilt's Mason Rudolph Championship (Sept. 21-23) and Northwestern's Windy City Collegiate Championship (Oct. 1-2).
After this weekend, the Sun Devils start the spring season in earnest at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. Feb. 3-5.
