TEMPE – Sun Devil Baseball opened its three-game series against UNCW on Friday night with an impressive 9-4 victory in front of 2,341 fans at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

Marsh did what he had done all season in not allowing a run en route to earning the victory, going 3.1 scoreless innings pitched with just one hit allowed and four strikeouts and no walks. In 12.1 innings and 4 appearances this season, Marsh has yet to allow a run and is now 2-0 on the year.
ASU added some insurance in the seventh with a Canning RBI ground out to make it 8-4.
Hunter Jump added one more insurance run for the Devils in the bottom of the eighth, plating Gage Workman on his first career hit and RBI to make it 9-4.
Chaz Montoya, who entered the game with the tying run on deck in the eighth, went the final 1.1 inning to earn his fourth save of the season.
Up next, Arizona State returns to the diamond Saturday evening at 6:30 P.M. for game two of the three game weekend series with UNCW. The Sun Devils will start senior left-hander Eli Lingos, who is 2-0 with a 3.63 ERA in three starts so far this season.
