LINCOLN, Neb. – Canadian international and Sun Devil senior Shaunie Morrison clocked her second 8.39 of the weekend in the women's 60-meter hurdles final Saturday at the Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Morrison came into the day with the top time in the event following Friday's prelim. She took the event crown out of lane five in Saturday's final, edging Nebraska's Jasmine Barge by three-tenths of a second.
Magdalyn Ewen followed up her record-setting outing Friday with another event win Saturday, this time in the shot put.
She heaved the shot 18.22m/59-9.50 feet, which would have been good enough for the best throw in the NCAA this season if Ewen hadn't already recorded the fifth-best throw in NCAA history just a couple of weeks ago in College Station, Texas.
For her win in the shot put, and the weight throw Friday afternoon, Ewen's performance was recognized by the University of Nebraska as the best by a female athlete this weekend.
Also in the shot put, freshman Samantha Noennig finished fourth with a mark of 16.55m/54-3.75 feet. Noennig already owns the 15th-best mark in the NCAA, and the second-best throw by a freshman in 2018.
Jessica Barreira made her season debut for the Devils in the triple jump, and took third with a leap of 12.39m/40-7.75 feet. The mark moved Barreira up to fourth in school history, just ahead of former Sun Devil and Canadian long jump record-holder Christabel Nettey.
The woman with the second-best leap in ASU history, Darreyl Woodson, finished just behind Barreira in fourth.
Bianca Tinoco followed up her 57-second 400 from last night with a third-place finish in the women's mile in 4:56.28, and Sha'Maya Flanagan finished sixth in the 200-meter dash in 24.62 seconds – the fastest time by a Sun Devil woman this season.
In the men's high jump, Elijah Hughes set his best mark of 2018 when he cleared 2.05m/6-8.75 feet and took fifth in the event. Ryan Bright and Mason Ford (1.95m/6-4.75 feet) finished 11th and 14th, respectively.
Next up for coach Greg Kraft's Devils is a busy weekend of competition across three states.
ASU will split up to tackle the Iowa State Classic in Ames, the Texas Tech Invitational in Lubbock and the Don Kirby Elite in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
