TUCSON, Ariz. -- Sophomore Gage Canning notched his team-leading fourth three-hit game of the season, but Sun Devil Baseball fell to Arizona, 11-2, on Tuesday night at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson.

The Devils (12-15) got the scoring started in the first frame when junior Andrew Shaps and freshman Lyle Lin nailed back-to-back singles to put two on with one out. Taking advantage of two errors by the Wildcats, sophomore Tyler Williams reached on a fielder's choice and drew an errant throw, allowing Shaps to score from third. Redshirt senior Jackson Willeford would get the Arizona State on the board again in the eight with a solo shot, the first of his Sun Devil and Division I career.

Arizona (21-7) would strike back in their half of the first frame using two walks, two hits and an Devils' throwing error to put three runs on the board and stake a 3-1 lead. The Cats would tack on one in both the second and third and six in the fifth frame to bring the score to the final 11-2.

Shining in the loss was Canning, who laced three singles on the night. Sophomore Garvin Alston Jr. also pitched a perfect bottom of the eighth, recording a fly out, pop out and a strikeout in his fourth appearance of the season.

NOTES: Lyle Lin extended his hitting streak to 10 games, matching the longest by a Sun Devil this season...He has now reached base in 26 of the team's 27 games this season and is riding a 13-game reached base streak - also tied for the longest by a Sun Devil this year...Canning's four games this season with three or more hits matches his 2016 total as a freshman...
