COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Arizona State track and field program jumps back into it competition this week, as they make their first appearance at an indoor national meet at the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational at Gilliam Indoor Stadium. The meet will be streamed live on SEC Network Plus beginning at 11 a.m. MST.
After typically starting the indoor season with a soft opener within the state, the Sun Devils leap onto the national stage for a better idea of how they stack up.
"Part of why you go there is to get a dose of reality," said head coach Greg Kraft. "We'll be six weeks out from the Mountain Pacific Championships, so you're trying to assess your overall roster.
"I think what we took away from the NAU meet was just a starting point and assessing how our young people react to competition and stress. Going (to College Station) will be the first time a lot of our student-athletes will be on a 200-meter bank track. It's also the site of the NCAA Indoor Championships, so it's a good chance for some of them to preview the facility."
The Devils have over 40 student-athletes competing this weekend, with some opening up for the first time this season.
More than anything, Kraft wants to see his athletes compete, rise to the occasion, but stay within themselves this weekend.
"You go there to stack yourselves up against some outstanding programs," said Kraft. "Texas A&M has been one of the elite programs in the country as long as coach Henry has been there. One of the emerging programs has been the University of Georgia, who has had some tremendous success. Just as equal is Texas Tech and TCU. At the end of the day, we just need to worry about ourselves and handle our business."
The meets start at 12 p.m. CST/11 a.m. MST. The order of events with all Sun Devil competitors are listed below.
