Sun Devil head coach Bobby Hurley has announced that 6-9, 230-pound Ramon Vila of Spain will join the team in August.
Vila, 18, is on Spain's preliminary squad for the FIBA U20 European Championships. In 29 games with FC Barcelona's second-division team, he averaged 5.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in 15.4 minutes. He shot 56.1 percent from the field and 64 percent from the foul line. He also averaged a team-high 12.7 points during the 2015 U18 European Championships.
"We are excited to welcome Ramon to the Sun Devil basketball program," says second-year Sun Devil head coach Bobby Hurley. "He has been very productive against high level international competition and has a high IQ for the game & will provide a rugged interior presence."
Coach Hurley and his staff signed five players for the 2016-17 season, as wing Sam Cunliffe, Romello White, Jethro Tshisumpa and Vitaliy Shibel signed prior to Vila. ASU had signed five ESPN top-100 players in the previous nine years, but now has three signed in its 2016 class.
