PHOENIX – Starting left-hander Eli Lingos shut out New Mexico for six innings and Sun Devil Baseball racked up a season-high 16 hits en route to a 7-4 series-clinching win on Saturday night at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

The Sun Devils (25-15) have won their past three weekend series’ and are 8-3 in their past 11 games.

Lingos (3-2) allowed just four base runners on three hits and a walk across the first six frames, and went a career-long seven innings to pick up his third win of the season. He conceded one run on three hits in the seventh, but issued a strikeout, one of his four on the night, and a foul pop fly to strand two and end the frame.

Arizona State took a 5-0 lead through four innings and saw offensive production from eight different players as they picked up double-digit hits for the fifth time in the past seven games.

Right fielder Gage Canning went 3-for-4 with a triple, his second consecutive game with multiple hits, and scored two runs, and has reached base in 18 straight contests, the team’s second-longest streak this season. Shortstop Colby Woodmansee secured two RBI and two hits, center fielder Andrew Shaps added three hits, a RBI and a run scored, and first baseman David Greer picked up his team-high 15th double.

Right-hander James Ryan struck out four across the final two innings and was responsible for three runs, including just one earned, on four hits and no walks. His outing marked his 14th appearance of the season, tied for the second-most on the team and tops among freshmen.

The Devils made a number of defensive plays to keep the Lobos (30-15) off the board, including a pair of catches by left fielder Daniel Williams and a stop deep in the infield by third baseman Jeremy McCuin.

Three base hits and a well-executed delayed double steal in the third inning staked the Devils a 2-0 lead. Back-to-back singles by second baseman Andrew Snow and Greer put runners at the corners, and the former came home to score via a RBI single from designated hitter Ryan Lillard and the latter on the back end of a first-and-third double steal.

ASU added three more in the following inning to extend its lead, 5-0. The Devils loaded the bases with no outs behind a walk from Shaps and consecutive bunt singles, and Snow and Woodmansee combined to plate all three of them with a RBI base hit and a two-run single, respectively.

Woodmansee pushed ASU’s advantage back to five, 6-1, as he led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single, moved to second on a groundout and came around on a RBI base hit up the middle by Shaps.

Aboites, who pinch-hit and played second base in place of Snow after he suffered a minor lower-body injury in the sixth inning, drove in the Devils’ final run of the game in the eighth inning following a triple from Canning. Aboites went 2-for-2 with a perfect fielding percentage in Snow’s absence.

New Mexico added a run in the eighth with a leadoff home run, and used a pair of hits and fielding error in left field in the ninth to score a pair and cut ASU’s lead to three, but Ryan issued a swinging strikeout for the final out of the evening.
