COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Arizona State wrestling team (4-3) fell to No. 5 Ohio State (2-0), 28-9, on Friday night at St. John Arena.
Wins for ASU came from sophomore Jacen Petersen at 165 pounds, redshirt senior No. 3 Blake Stauffer at 184 pounds, and senior No. 17 Matt Kraus at 149 pounds.
As the first bout of the night, Petersen got the Sun Devils on the board as he picked up a 10-4 decision win over Justin Kresevic, while Stauffer extends his win streak to seven straight as he bested Jack Rozema, 7-4, and Kraus outlasted Cody Burcher in a 4-2 decision in the penultimate bout of the evening.
Stauffer’s 45 career dual victories moves him in the ASU all-time list to No. 18, with Markus Mollica (1993-96).
Up next, the Sun Devils have a quick turnaround as they return to Wells Fargo Arena to open the Pac-12 slate on Sunday against Boise State. The dual is slated for a 7 p.m. MT start, and will be live streamed for free on TheSunDevils.com.
