LAS VEGAS—Four members of the Arizona State wrestling team, led by redshirt junior Blake Stauffer, qualified to compete on Saturday at the 33rd annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Stauffer went 3-0 in his bouts at 184 pounds, using two decisions and a tech fall to advance to the semifinals, where he will face North Dakota State’s Hayden Zilmer in his first match tomorrow.

Redshirt junior Preston McCalmon went 2-1 at 149 pounds, dropping his quarterfinal bout to Cornell’s Christopher Villalonga in a 10-2 major decision. McCalmon won a pair of decisions in the first two rounds, including a 2-1 tiebreaker win over Minnesota’s Jane Short. Saturday, he will first face off against Virginia Tech’s Sal Mastriani in the fifth round of consolation competition.

At 157 pounds, Joel Smith used a major decision over Virginia’s Andrew Atkinson and an 11-7 decision over the Citadel’s Aaron Walker to advance to the quarterfinals, where he fell in a 14-2 major decision to Minnesota’s Dylan Ness. Saturday, Smith will face American’s John Boyle in the fifth round of consolation competition.

Redshirt junior Josh DaSilveira led ASU with four matches on the day, going 3-1 at 197 pounds. DaSilveira started off the day with a 13-7 decision over Navy’s Payl Rands, then was pinned by Cornell’s Jace Bennett in the second round. DaSilveira picked up back-to-back wins in the third and fourth consolation matches and will face Indiana’s Lucas Sheridan to start things off on Saturday.

Following the Cliff Keen Invitational, ASU will next compete at the Reno Tournament of Champions on Sunday, Dec. 21.
