Williams Pitches No. 23 ASU Baseball Past No. 17 OSU, 3-2

TEMPE, Ariz. - The 23rd-ranked Arizona State baseball team, behind the arm of right-hander Trevor Williams, defeated No. 17 Oregon State, 3-2, on Friday night in front of 2,948 fans at Packard Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.

Williams (6-2) earned his sixth win of the season after allowing just five base runners in seven innings pitched. He gave up four hits and a walk to go along with three strikeouts, and did not let the Beavers reach third base while he was on the mound.

Deven Marrero provided the offensive spark for the Sun Devils (18-12, 5-6) with a two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth inning and Joey DeMichele added an RBI single in the next at-bat to give ASU the lead, 3-0.

Williams was replaced by right-hander Robert Ravago in the eighth after hitting the leadoff batter and surrendering a single in the following at-bat. Ravago allowed one hit and struck out one in the frame.

Right-hander Jake Barrett (5) pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the save, punctuated by a called strikeout for the final out.

The Beavers (18-10, 6-5) scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning on a two-out, two-run single by Michael Conforto, but Ravago induced a flyout to keep the Devils[ lead intact.

Left-hander Ben Wetzler (4-1) took his first loss of the season after surrendering three runs on five hits and 5 1/3 innings.

The Sun Devils close out their three-game Pac-12 series with the Beavers on Saturday at Packard Stadium. First pitch is set for 12:30 p.m., with Tim Healey and Seth Dhaenens broadcasting the game live on KDUS The Fan Am 1060, and FoxSportsArizona.com streaming it live online.
