TEMPE, A--The Arizona State Women's gymnastics team hit a season-high team score of 194.125 in a loss to No.3 Utah. Utah posted a team score of 196.525.
Starting the competition on bars, the Gym Devils hit a season-high team score of 48.875. Senior Mary Atkinson led the team with a 9.850 season-high. Nickie Johnson nailed her swing scoring a season-high of 9.800. Stephanie Hangartner hit a solid 9.775. Beaté Jones and Christina Salavec both tallied a 9.725. Emily Warfield had her first fall of the season posting a 9.100.
The Gym Devils moved to vault in the second rotation. Atkinson tallied a 9.850 tying for second place in the competition. Freshman Samantha Seaman hit a career-high scoring a 9.800. Callie Price posted a season-high of 9.775 while Amelia Rew followed scoring a 9.750. Jones tallied a 9.650. The Gym Devils hit a season-high on bars as well with a total of 48.825.
On the floor exercise, the Gym Devils hit a season-high team total of 48.850. Atkinson placed first in the competition with a season-high score of 9.850. Johnson and Madison Snowden hit their routines both scoring 9.800. Schuett hit a 9.750 while Salavec and Davies both posted a 9.650.
In the final rotation, the balance beam continued to be a struggle for the Gym Devils. Jones led the team with a season-high of 9.725. Salavec tallied a 9.650 high. Rew also scored a 9.650 in her beam career-debut. Johnson posted a 9.375 while Snowden scored a 9.175. After solid performances on the first three events, Atkinson fell multiple times posting a 8.425. The team scored a team total of 47.575.
The Gym Devils return to Tempe to compete in a Pac-10 dual meet against Oregon State Sunday, Feb. 6 at 12:00 p.m. in Wells Fargo Arena.
