Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. – Even with a flat offensive outing, the No. 1 Arizona State Softball Team on the strength of another stellar complete-game shutout from Dallas Escobedo pulled away with a 1-0 win over the Oregon State Beavers Friday night. Escobedo struck out eight en route to her 22 win on the year to move to 22-3 overall as ASU improves to 43-5 on the year and 10-3 in Pac-10 play. The Beavers fall to 18-20 overall and 1-12 in conference play.

From the start it was nearly all Dallas Escobedo as she came out dealing on the night, giving up a paltry two hits to the Beaver offense while her own struggled at the plate against OSU’s Tina Andreana.

Andreana struggled with control in the first inning as she gave up a single up the middle from Lesley Rogers, but then proceeded to give up three walks to bring in the only run of the game as Sam Parlich drew the bases loaded free pass to bring in Lesley Rogers.

That was all both sides could muster on offense outside of the second inning when Katelyn Boyd skied a ball to center field which should have been her 15th home run of the season, except center fielder, Lea Cavestany had other plans as she pulled down an ESPN Top-10 play to catch it as it sailed over the fence. Cavestany proved to be a proverbial black hole in the outing as everything sent her way was caught as she collected three run-saving put-outs in center.

The Sun Devils return to action again tomorrow as they set to face the Oregon State Beavers again at 7 p.m. in Tempe at Farrington Stadium.
