TEMPE, Ariz. – Battling through cold and rain, Katelyn Boyd went a perfect five-for-five with three home runs Friday to lead the No. 9 Sun Devil Softball team to 16-1 (5) and 13-2 (5) wins over Idaho State and Seattle University to close out the Littlewood Classic. Hillary Bach and Dallas Escobedo collected the wins on the day to move to 2-0 and 6-0 respectively as ASU holds a 9-1 overall record.
Game one pitted Hillary Bach against the Idaho State Bengals line-up where after allowing a run off an RBI double to the Bengals stepped up to shut them down the rest of the game while ASU’s offense went to work. After putting a run on the board in the first the Sun Devils exploded in the second inning for 11 runs with focal points coming from RBI hits from Katelyn Boyd and Talor Haro as well as home runs from Annie Lockwood and Katelyn Boyd.
Boyd added another home run to her tally in the fifth inning as ASU poured on four more runs unanswered by the Bengals as Hillary Bach looked untouchable through the duration of the game to close out a 16-1 win in five innings.
Dallas Escobedo took to the circle in the last game of the tournament where she faced the Seattle University RedHawks, throwing two perfect innings and allowing only one walk to SU while striking out six before being relieved by Mackenzie Popescue who took it home the rest of the way.
The offense got the job done as well with Katelyn Boyd leading off the game with a home run while Christina Zambrana cracked a three run home run and Lacy Goodman put one over the fence as well. Annie Lockwood went two-for-two with two RBIs as well as the Sun Devils put 15 hits on the board for 13 runs for a 13-2 win in five to close out the tournament.
The Sun Devils return to action next weekend as they host the Michigan State Spartans in a three game series next Friday-Sunday with games at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and noon on Sunday in Tempe at Farrington Stadium.
