TEMPE, Ariz. – The Arizona State Softball Program made a new record Friday night with their 11-1 win in five innings over the third-ranked Arizona Wildcats. The win is the first time ASU has ever defeated Arizona with the run rule. Sam Parlich stole the show on the night as the freshman hurler took the win in her first ever Pac-10 appearance while adding two runs with a triple. Parlich is now 6-2 on the year while ASU holds at 32-5 overall and 1-1 in Pac-10 play.

Sam Parlich took to the circle for the Sun Devils with an 5-2 record as she set to face–off against Sarah Akamine who entered with a 10-1 record.  Parlich was back on track right out of the gates allowing only four hits, with a highlight from the pitcher herself as Parlich dug in on a 1-1 pitch to launch a triple to the right line for two RBIs proving she can get it done on both sides of the ball as ASU ran off with a 4-0 lead.

The offenses’ appetite wasn’t slaked with just four runs though as they came out again in the second inning adding two more runs with RBI singles from Katelyn Boyd and Krista Donnenwirth for a 6-0 lead after two complete.

While the pesky ‘Cats were set back by the vicarious Sun Devil firepower, they weren’t going out quietly as they added a run in the third inning with an RBI single from Stacie Chambers to left center to cut the lead to 6-1.

ASU wasn’t finished with the ‘Cats yet though as the ball was jumping like grasshoppers on fire off the Sun Devil bats with an RBI double from Lesley Rogers followed with an RBI single up the middle from Katelyn Boyd and capped sweetly off with a three-run bomb to left field for her eighth home run of the season, placing her at 20th all-time in single-season records.
