While their times continue to drop for the Sun Devils, the Arizona State University swimming and diving teams could not keep up with USC as both the men and women dropped their contest to the Trojans. With a 168-130 loss, the women fell to 3-3 (1-2 Pac-10) while the men are now 0-4 (0-1 Pac-10).
Sophomore Xavier Mohammed shined for the Sun Devils. The British sophomore tallied three wins for the team. After taking first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:52.11, Mohammed competed in arguably one of his strongest events, for the first this season, the 200 back. Finishing in 1:47.80, Mohammed was about a second and half faster than the rest of the field. The 200 IM, an event Mohammed won the gold in at 2008 European Juniors, also went to Mohammed as he finished in 1:52.20. Also on the men's side, junior James Rigg placed first in the 100 fly with a time of 50.08.
The women started out strong as they out-touched the Trojans in the 200 medley by three one-hundredths of a second. The team of Jamie Martinez, Rebecca Ejdervik, Ashton Aubry and Samantha Caldwell clocked in at 1:43.35 to pick up 11 points for the Sun Devils. Sophomore Ejdervik also earned a win, and an NCAA consideration time, in the 100 breast, earning a time of 1:02.47. Her fellow breaststroker, Jordyn Green clocked in her own "B" standard in the 200 breast, taking second in 2:15.52.
Freshman Shannon Landgrebe earned her first consideration time of the season. The Palm Springs area-native earned a time of 1:49.00 in the 200 free to place second. Landgrebe later went on to win the 100 free in 51.21. Over in the diving well, sophomore Elina Eggers took first in the 1-meter, scoring 312.30, an NCAA "A" standard.
The divers head down to Tucson next weekend for the Wildcat Invitational.
