The Rainbow Wahine built an early 5-1 lead through one quarter of play to easily score a 22-8 victory over Pacific in the opening game of the 2007 MPSF Championship in Tempe. Angela Turnbull scored five goals to pace Hawaii, including scoring three in second quarter as the Rainbow Wahine took a 13-3 halftime lead. Kelly Mason and Lisa Van Raalte each added four goals for Hawaii, who now advances to face the winner of San Diego State vs. UC Santa Barbara Friday at 3:20 p.m. Kellie Fletcher led the Tigers with five goals, including four on the power play, while the league's leading scorer netted two in the loss.

San Diego State used a five-goal showing in the third quarter with five different players scoring one goal each to pace the Aztecs to a 10-8 lead that turned into a close 13-11 victory in the second game of the tournament over UC Santa Barbara. Anna Gonzales and Stacy Werner led all scorers as each netted three goals in the win for the Aztecs while four different Gauchos scored a pair of goals in the loss, including Zizi Clark, Lindsay Knott, Sarah Kovach and Aimee Stachowski. In the cage, Sarah Kilgore had 13 saves in the victory while Jenny Gonzales stopped six SDSU shots.

Tanya Torres netted a pair of goals in the third quarter and Deanna Lowry scored half of her four goals in the final quarter of play to lead San Jose State to a 12-9 victory over CS Northridge. The Matadors held a 4-2 lead after the first quarter of play before the Spartans tied the game a six at the intermission. SJSU outscored CSUN, 6-3, in the final half to take the win. Juliet Moss also scored a pair of goals for the Spartans while Kendra Adama halted 10 shots in total for the win. Christie Cruz scored four goals for the Matadors and Jillian Stapf tried to keep her side in it with 11 saves.

A solid second half of defense provided the key to victory for Long Beach State as the No. 10 49ers knocked off No. 7 California, 12-9, by limiting the Golden Bears to three goals in the second half, all three of which came in the fourth quarter. Marina Canetti had a stellar game for the victorious 49ers as she scored four goals, including two in the deciding third stanza, while also recording several key steals. Keala O'Sullivan, Christina Wensman, Megan Winchell each chipped in a pair of goals for LBSU while Julie Oreglia scored four for the Bears. Kim Hayes had seven saves in the win.

It was a back-and-forth affair in the final game of day one at the MPSF Championship with the lower-seeded Anteaters taking a 13-12 decision over the host Sun Devils. The Sun Devils led most of the contest, including leads of 3-2, 7-6 and 10-8 through the first three quarters, respectively, but UC Irvine netted six goals to Arizona State's one in the final stanza, including three from Robin Kaake and a pair from Gianna Rossi, to help the Anteaters take the game. Kelly Phelps led the Sun Devils in scoring with a trio of goals, but UCI had three scored by both Rossi and Jackie Prine to bolster its attack. Lauren Machanis stopped 10 shots in the win for UCI while Caylinn Wallace halted 11 in the loss.
