ASU Baseball Hands Out Team Awards at 23rd Annual Baseball Banquet

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State University Baseball program handed out their team awards at the 23rd Annual Baseball Banquet at the Tempe Mission Palms on Tuesday night. Brett Wallace, who was named the Pac-10 Player of the Year, was named the On Deck Circle Most Valuable Player.

The Sun Devils, who are the #5 National Seed entering this weekend's NCAA Tournament, finished the regular season 43-13 and won the Pac-10 Conference with a record of 19-5. The 19 wins ties a conference record.

The 2007 winners were:

Casey Myers Academic Award.............. Petey Paramore

Phill Lowery Comeback Player............. Tim Smith

Alvin Davis Leadership Award.............. Rocky Laguna

Developmental MVP............................ Joe Van Meter

Newcomer of the Year......................... Brian Flores & Matt Spencer

Outstanding Offensive Player.............. Brett Wallace

Outstanding Defensive Player............. Petey Paramore & Andrew Romine

Pitcher of the Year.............................. Josh Satow

The Tillman........................................ Eric Sogard

Jim Brock - Mr. Sun Devil Award........... Ike Davis

Bobby Winkles Award......................... Raoul Torrez

On MVP............................. Brett Wallace

 

Wallace joins a star-studded list of On Deck Circle MVPs. Former winners include Major Leaguers Dustin Pedroia, Willie Bloomquist, Paul Lo Duca and Barry Bonds.

 

The Sun Devils open the 2007 NCAA Tournament in the Tempe Regional on Friday, when they face Monmouth at 7 p.m. at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.
