Annual Swimming and Diving Intrasquad Meet Set For Friday

Oct. 2, 2002

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving program is hosting their annual Maroon and Gold Intrasquad meet this Friday, October 4, at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center at 3:00 p.m. The meet features the Sun Devils competing against each other in 13 events. This is the earliest intrasquad matchup since the 1998-99 campaign.

"This gives us a good opportunity to shake the cobwebs off and compete a little bit," says head diving coach Mark Bradshaw, who looks forward to having the deepest diving squads in his time here at ASU.

Head swimming coach Michael Chasson also enjoys the chance to let the student-athletes get into competition.

"It gives us an initial chance to see where people are and lets us get an idea of what people will be doing when we start the dual season."

The intrasquad meet calls for the men and women to each have one maroon team and one gold team. The men's maroon team competes against the men's gold team and likewise for the women. On the men's side, captain Ace Tate's maroon squad will feature All-American Bobby Zaabadich and David Kolozar, a top freshman recruit from Hungary who has already made a name for himself at the world level. The gold squad captained by Brian Spetman, features returning All-Americans Nick Brunelli, Christian Harcsas and Russell MacDonald.

For women's captain Josie Jedick, her maroon team will feature All-Americans ?gnes Kov?cs and Florencia Szigeti. Women's gold captain and All-American Miranda Shald will have All-Americans Claire Hedenskog, Kari Wilcox and Florence Mauro on her squad.

The Sun Devils begin their dual meet season at home on October 25 at 1:00 p.m. The women will compete against UNLV and Northern Arizona while the men compete against UNLV only.
