Mike Bercovici

TitleGraduate Assistant - Offense
Arizona State University head football coach Herm Edwards announced in May 2019 that former Sun Devil quarterback Mike Bercovici will be joining his staff as an offensive graduate assistant.

"During his time at ASU, Mike epitomized what being a Sun Devil is about," said Edwards. "In addition to being an outstanding player, he was a tremendous leader and competitor who poured everything he had into being successful both on and off the field. I know our young men will greatly benefit from the knowledge he has to offer."

"I spoke with Herm and (ASU offensive coordinator) Rob Likens back in January when I was still doing the new league and it seemed like an opportunity that I could not pass up," Bercovici said. "I'm obviously super passionate about this school and I could not be more excited to be here and have the opportunity to work with the quarterbacks and teach them everything I have learned up to this point in my career."

A four-year letterwinner at quarterback (2012-15), Bercovici tallied 5,333 passing yards, 42 touchdowns and 13 interceptions on 438 completions and added 418 career rushing yards in 41 career games with 16 starts. He finished with a 137.9 career passing efficiency rating and accounted for 48 career touchdowns. His 30 touchdown passes in 2015 are tied for the most in a single season. It was also in 2015 when Bercovici authored the most famous ASU football play in recent memory, the Jael Mary, a 46-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jaelen Strong as time expired that gave ASU a 38-34 upset win over No. 16 USC in the Coliseum.

After ASU, Bercovici spent time with both the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers (2016-17) and the Arizona Cardinals (2017). Most recently he was the starting quarterback for the Alliance of American Football's San Diego Fleet.

Off the field, Bercovici earned two degrees from ASU: Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management in May 2014 and Master's degree in Sports Law and Business in December 2015. Bercovici, who was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Team three times, was named the 2015 Pac-12 Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He was named the 2016 recipient of both the Bill Kajikawa award – given to graduating male and female Sun Devil student-athlete who demonstrated academic excellence, athletic accomplishment, leadership and service in the community – and the Pac-12 Tom Hansen Conference Medal – presented to male and female athletes at each Pac-12 school who exhibit the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics, and leadership. Bercovici dedicated more than 50 hours at various kid's camps and youth clinics throughout his career and committed another 50-plus hours in a number of visits during his five years at ASU, including multiple trips to the Phoenix Children's Hospital and the Carson Children's Hospital in Mesa, as well as multiple elementary and middle schools across the state.
