Jordan Gobatie

TitleVolunteer assistant coach
Jordan Gobatie joined the Sun Devil women's tennis program in 2020 after making a name for himself as both a student-athlete and coach at Northern Arizona.

Gobatie worked as an assistant coach with the NAU women's tennis program for the 2018-19 season. In that year, the Lumberjacks swept the 2019 Big Sky regular season and claimed their first tournament title since 1999. He helped five players earn All-Big Sky honors including Chiara Tomasetti who picked up Big Sky Most Valuable Player honors. Tomasetti also recorded a program-best No. 44  singles ranking under Gobatie's guidance. NAU advanced to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history, snapping a 20-year drought, and finished the 2018-19 season with a 15-9 record and 9-1 mark in league play.

Prior to NAU, Gobatie spent over two years at Cypress College in California. He worked as an assistant for 15 months before being elevated to head men's tennis coach in December 2017, a position he held until May 2018. Under his leadership, Cypress went 8-2 in league play and celebrated all six sophomores transferring to four-year institutions. Cypress also finished No. 2 in the California JUCO ranks.

A junior college product himself, Gobatie capped off his collegiate career with two seasons (2013-15) with the Lumberjacks men's tennis program after starting his career at Riverside Community College. With NAU, Gobatie earned first team All-Big Sky honors in 2015 after recording 22 wins and a team-best 10 doubles victories. Gobatie primarily played at No. 1 in both singles and doubles. He earned 25 wins and an All-Big Sky honorable mention nod in his first year with the 'Jacks.

Gobatie was a two-year starter under head coach Jim Elton at RCC. He earned RCC Athlete of the Year honors and led the Tigers to a fifth-place finish in the national JUCO doubles division. Gobatie's performance also helped RCC claim the 2012 Orange Empire Conference title.

Gobatie graduated from NAU with a master’s in education and a bachelor’s in political science. He also holds a minor in business.
