Q & A with Nicole Fossa Huergo
Longest match you have ever played? My longest match was last summer. It lasted 3 days because of the rain. It was the most mentally intense match I ever played. In my life, I played long matches but that one was a tree set of matches that did not want to end. When finally, I had the chance to close it at the third set, it started raining again and we had to finish it inside, passing from outside clay court to inside hard court.
What is your favorite shot? Forehand. I have been working a lot on it and I am able to mix different kinds of shots for example with less or more topspin or less or more aggressive.
Favorite commentator? Martina Navratilova
Favorite grand slam? Why? Wimbledon. I think is the most important tournament that everybody wants to win. Players give everything to win this tournament offering intense emotions and long fights during their matches to the public. I also love the fact that players have to wear white. I think its a symbol of elegance and elite that represent tennis.
Favorite song from your favorite artist? I really like music, I think every day I have a new favorite song, but maybe won’t get tired of the Guns N’ Roses with “Sweet Child of Mine”
What is a quote that you live by? “The greatest adventure is what lies ahead”
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? How to act in every single situation. I guess it will help interacting with people and have an easier life.
If you could meet anyone, past or present, who would it be? Roger Federer, he is my idol, the perfection of tennis.
What's your favorite TV show and why? I do not have a favorite show. I never finished watching one, but if I had to choose, I would say, One Tree Hill. I generally like shows that are based on real life. In this show there are teenagers, where some of them play college sports while growing up affronting different obstacles. I watch different shows but the purpose is only to relax during my free time.
What is your favorite meal of the day? Dinner. I like to have a nice dinner with my family or friends at end of the day.
What is your favorite season in the year? Spring. It is always fun to travel and spend time with your teammates and especially you can compete and confront yourself, that helps you to improve.
What is your favorite holiday and why? Christmas, because I can go home for a couple weeks and see my parents and friends having big lunches, dinners and exchanging presents.
What three words would you use to describe yourself? Hard worker, Cooperative, Humble
What is your favorite food? Italian Pizza
What is your favorite candy? Lollipop
What is a place/country that you have always wanted to visit? New York. I love to travel and see new places. Unfortunately, even if I had the chance to go to different countries and cities I am still missing New York.
What was the most exciting game you have ever been a part of? It was when I was playing the final of Nationals DII Tennis. We ended up winning and everybody was crying for the emotion. It was an intense match and we had a great support during the matches
What is your favorite dessert? Creps with nutella
What got you into playing tennis? My dad is a tennis coach and I have been growing up in the tennis courts. I used to go to work with him and spend all the days at the club playing tennis or doing other activities.
What is your favorite thing about Arizona State? I love how it is organized, I can reach my classes, the tennis courts or the training room easily. In addition, the peoples are very friendly and always ready to help you.
