Shannon Shields Season 2023

2023 (Graduate)

• Ended her collegiate career with her most productive season yet. She was the primary setter all season, starting in every match and totaling 1,239 assists, the 10th highest single-season total in program history. 
• Totaled nine double-doubles and had nine matches with 40-plus assists and two with 50 or more.
• AVCA All-America Honorable Mention.
• AVCA All-Region.
• Named to the 2023 Pac-12 Fall Academic Honor Roll.
• In the second-round win against BYU, she notched 35 assists in the three-set win. She also had two aces and two blocks.
• In the first-round sweep of Georgia, she had 28 assists in three sets, adding six kills.
• Pac-12 Honorable Mention.
• In the win against Oregon State, she earned a double double, getting 47 assists and a team-high 14 digs (ties her season high). She also had a career high in kills with eight and added four blocks.
• Had a double-double with 38 assists and 10 digs. She also had a career-high six kills against No. 6 Oregon. 
• Shields led the team 30 assists, seven digs, three blocks and three kills in the sweep of Utah. 
• In the win against Colorado, she had 46 assists and nine digs for a near double-double.
• Notched 38 assists and 10 digs in the win against UCLA. She also matched her season high with five kills.
• In the win against No. 3 Stanford, she paced the offense with 28 assists, adding eight digs, three kills and an ace.
• Recorded a double-double in the win against Utah with 29 assists and a season-high 14 digs. She added three blocks, four kills and an ace as well.
• She had 29 assists in the win against No. 5 Oregon to go with her 10 digs and five kills. 
• She had 49 assists, three aces, six blocks and 10 digs against Oregon State. 
• In the sweep of UCLA, she had 30 assists to surpass 2,000 career assists. She added seven digs, three blocks and three kills.
• Earned a double-double with 43 assists and 13 digs in the win against USC. 
• Had a new personal best in assists with 54, adding eight digs and an ace in the win against Cal. 
• Had 49 assists and two kills in the win against Washington. 
• She had 36 assists to pace the offense in the win against Arizona. She also had six digs and five kills.
• Shields led the charge in the win against Southern Miss, earning five aces. In addition to Shields' five aces, she dished out 37 assists and had five digs and a block. She was also named to the all-tournament team for the Beale Street Challenge. 
• In the win against Memphis, she had a career-high six aces. She also had match-high 33 assists, four digs and three kills.
• She notched a double-double with a match-high 13 digs and 28 assists in the win against NAU. She also tied her season high in kills with four.  
• In the win against NMSU, she had a career-high six blocks against the Aggies. She tallied 40 assists as well. 
• Shields had a career-high 52 assists in the win against USF. This was her second match ever reaching 50-plus assists, sixth match in her career with 40 or more. She also had six digs, three blocks, two kills and an ace.  
• She had a season-high 41 assists in the win against UTEP.  It was her fifth match of her career with 40-plus assists. She also added three kills and six digs.
• She had 26 assists in the win against Ole Miss. She also had a team-high 12 digs for her first double-double of the year, 11th of her career.
• Against FGCU, she paced the offense with 27 assists in the season-opening win, collecting four kills and seven digs as well. Her four kills are more than she has had in a match at ASU.

2022 (Senior):

• Her senior season was her most productive to this point as she totaled a team-best 653 assists. She had seven double-doubles on the year.
• She was the primary setter for the majority of the match against Arizona, collecting 40 assists and adding nine digs.
• She recorded her second-highest assist total in her Sun Devil career with 41 in the win against Utah. She also had 10 digs for her sixth double-double of the year, her third in the last four matches.
• Earned her fifth double-double of the season with 32 assists and 13 digs against Stanford.
• Had a career-high of 16 digs against UW, while also leading the team with 30 assists. 
• Against UCLA, she notched a double-double with 25 assists and 12 digs.
• Against OSU, she led the offense, tallying 38 assists in the win. She added seven digs and three blocks, the latter of which is a season high.
• Led the setters with 24 assists in the win at No. 21 Washington. 
• Had 34 assists and nine digs against Stanford, putting her at 1,000 career assists. 
• Recorded 38 assists and seven digs in the win against Cal. 
• She had 26 assists, as well as five digs in the three sets she started against USC. 
• Against UCLA she had 20 assists and seven digs, as well as a season-high three kills.
• Earned a career-high 50 assists against Oregon State, along with 10 digs, two aces and two blocks. 
• Against No. 15 Baylor, she led the team with 14 assists and 10 digs for her first double-double of the season.
• Had a career high five service aces in the win against Evansville.
• Made her season debut against CSUB. She had 46 assists in her first two matches against CSUB and UNI. 

2021 (Junior):

• Played in 13 matches, starting five. 
• Was second on the team in assists with 164.
• Had 13 assists against Oregon State. 
• Started and played the entirety of the first set, collecting 15 assists against No. 16 Utah. 
• Had 31 assists, a season high, as well as seven digs in a win against Colorado after coming in toward the end of the second set and playing the rest of the match. 
• Notched 17 assists and eight digs in a win against Pacific. 
• Collected 16 assists in a win against UC Davis. She also had two aces in the match.
• Had 23 assists in a win against NAU, tying her season-high. 
• Earned the team-high in assists in a win against Utah Valley with 23, as well as two aces and six digs. 
• Made her first appearance of the season against Georgia in the Ameritas Players Challenge.

2020-21 (Sophomore):

• Totaled 196 assists in 33 sets.
• Registered 26 assists and nine digs in the last match of the season against No. 16 Oregon. 
• Collected a double-double against No. 16 Oregon with 26 assists and 14 digs. 
• Earned 32 assists in the second sweep over Cal.
• Notched 33 assists along with seven digs and two kills against rival Arizona. 
• Tallied 13 assists in her first start as a Sun Devil. 
• Recorded 11 assists against No. 8 Utah. 
• Collected three assists against Washington State during her first outing as a Sun Devil. 

Before ASU

• Played one season at Louisville, playing in 64 sets.
• The Cardinals advanced to the Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament in 2019.
• Had a career high 45 assists at Boston College in 2019.
• Earned two double-doubles, one against Dayton and one against Western Kentucky.
• In high school at Xavier College Prep, was named the Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year.
• Also named a two-time All-American by PrepVolleyball, as well as Under-Armour Second Team All-American.
• Two-time Arizona 6A State Champion.
• MVP and Arizona Volleyball Player of the Year.
• Won the 2016 USA National Championship in the open division.
• Three-time member of the USA Volleyball All-Tournament Team in the open division.
• Was also a two-time Arizona State Champion for beach volleyball.

Personal:
Her parents are Patrick and Gabrielle and she is an only child. She hopes to pursue a career in dermatology.
