Robert Wagner begins his sixth season as an Associate Head Coach on Clint Myers' staff. Wagner arrived at Arizona State University with over 10 years experience coaching at the collegiate level. Prior to ASU, Wagner served as the Assistant Softball Coach at the University of Washington, his alma mater, during the 2004-2005 season. The Huskies finished the year with a 35-22 record, having reached the Super Regional final of the 2005 NCAA tournament. He was in charge of hitting and outfielders. The UW hitters were ranked in the top five in HR's per game, and in the top ten in the nation for scoring.
Before that, Wagner was the head softball coach at Odessa College for two seasons. He engineered the first winning season in the program's history and his teams led the conference in steals both years. With Wagner at the helm, the team broke nearly every school record. As well, he placed four players on the All-Conference team while compiling a 42-24 record in 2003-04.
Wagner also served as a softball assistant coach at Utah, helping them to consecutive second-place finishes in the Mountain West Conference and the Conference Tournament championship in 2002. During the 2002 season, Utah hitters ranked fourth in the nation in home runs per game.
No stranger to the Tempe area, Wagner served as both an assistant softball coach (1998-2000) and an assistant baseball coach (1995-1998) at Central Arizona College, including an NJCAA championship run with the softball team in 1999. Wagner arrived at Central Arizona after having served as the head coach of softball at Woodinville High School in Woodinville, Wash. Wagner is a 1995 graduate of the University of Washington where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English. He received his master's degree from the University of Phoenix in 2000. He also served in the United States Marine Corps for four years.
