Craig Nicholson, head coach of the Sun Devil Softball program, has resigned from his position at Arizona State University due to personal medical reasons.
In two seasons with the Sun Devils, Craig led the softball program to consecutive postseason appearances, and continued the team’s strong academic tradition.
We thank Craig for his service at ASU and wish him the best in his future endeavors.
Letty Olivarez and Robert Wagner will serve as co-interim head coaches and we will conduct a national search at the end of the season.
"Our main priority now is to make sure our student-athletes uphold the great tradition we have here on the field, in the classroom and in the community. They chose Arizona State because it offers the opportunity to play for one of the best softball programs in the nation at a top university. That has not changed. The goals and support system are well in place to succeed in 2015-16. Our staff feels this team had a chance to be special this year, and our goals remain the same." -- Robert Wagner
"As someone who coached against Arizona State while at Stanford and working on the West Coast, I understand the tradition and Coach Wagner and I will do everything we can to ensure our student-athletes have the best experience possible in 2015-16. The team has been great to work with and all our goals will remain unchanged." -- Letty Olivarez
