Murphy Cassone discusses season expectations on Sun Devil Extra
SOPHOMORE (2022-23):
Prep:
- A highly skilled player and the No. 1 prospect out of Kansas, Cassone ranks No. 1 amongst US juniors and No. 131 amongst international juniors (Nov.19, 2020)
- He's picked up more than 50 wins over the last three years, and he carries a 13.0 rating according to the Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) system.
JUNIOR (2023-24)
- NCAA Singles and Doubles All-American after reaching the quarterfinal round in each tournament.
- Doubles All-American status came alongside Jacob Bullard after receiving the Pac-12's auto bid into the doubles tournament and advancing to the quarterfinals, defeating the #14 and #32 doubles teams.
- The pair of Bullard/Cassone ended the season with a 13-3 record earning them the #31 spot in the final ITA Doubles Rankings.
- Singles All-American Status came by way of defeating #53 Jonah Braswell, #41 Trevor Svajda, and #26 Karlis Ozolins.
- Defeated then-No. 4 Ozan Baris (MSU) en route to his season-high ITA Singles ranking of #6.
- Pac-12 All-Conference First Team selection and 2x Pac-12 Player of the Week.
- Named an ATP Next Gen Accelerator, earning a 2024-25 qualifying spot.
- Ended the season ranked #13 in the ITA Singles Rankings.
- Team-high 17 singles wins and 19 doubles wins.
- 2024 Division I ITA Scholar-Athlete.
SOPHOMORE (2022-23):
- Cassone was selected for the 2023 USTA Collegiate Summer Team for the second year in a row.
- First Sun Devil to reach All-American status in men's tennis since 1995
- First Sun Devil to reach the semifinal round since Sargis Sargsian in 1995
- Had five Aces in his fifth post-season match
- Qualified for the ITA/ATP Accelerator Program
- Upset No. 3 Arthur Fery (Stanford) in straight sets, 7-6(6), 7-5, to advance to the 2023 NCAA Men's Tennis Semifinals
- Hit over 20 wins as a sophomore, 22-7 Singles Record
- Overall win percentage was 76%
- Pac-12 All-Conference First Team selection
- Had a career high ATP ranking of 509 (Oct. 3, 2022)
- Prior to the start of the 2022 school year, Cassone competed at the US Open in the men's main draw where he was eliminated in the first round.

- Against San Diego on Feb. 6, Cassone swept No. 1 August Holmgren in straight 6-4, 6-4 sets. The following week he topped No. 9 Daniel De Jonge in three sets (7-5, 2-6, 7-5) en route to earning his first Pac-12 Player of the Week honor (Feb. 16).
- In the fall, Cassone competed at Chowderfest where he picked up a three-set victory over No. 124 Yuta Kikuchi.
- Cassone appeared in six singles matches and three doubles matches in the fall. He picked up three singles victories and one doubles victory.
