Dan Lanning enters his second season at Arizona State and his first as the on-campus recruting coordinator.
In 2012, Lanning was a graduate assistant for defense and coached the outside linebackers and nickelbacks for a Sun Devil defense that finished the season ranked No. 1 in the nation in tackles for loss, No. 2 in sacks and No. 3 in pass defense as ASU went on to win the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl.
Lanning, who also played a vital role in securing commitments from some of the top prospects in the nation for ASU, spent the 2011 season with Todd Graham at the University of Pittsburgh where he was a graduate assistant charged with working with the defensive backs. Lanning worked with the corners and safeties and was the lead recruiter for several states in the Northeast while he was with the Panthers and was a member of the coaching staff that helped Pitt advance to the BBVA Compass Bowl at the conclusion of the 2011 season.
Prior to his stint at Pittsburgh, Lanning was an assistant football coach at Park Hill South High School in Riverside, Mo. There, Lanning worked with the defensive backs and wide receivers, as well as serving as the special teams coordinator.
Lanning earned his Master's Degree in Secondary Administration from William Woods University in Missouri in 2010 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in both Physical Education and Secondary Education from William Jewell College in Missouri in 2008.
Lanning and his wife, Sauphia, have three sons: Caden, Kniles and Titan.
