Brad Keenan

TitleHead Coach

Brad Keenan led the Sand Devils to an 11-13 record, 6-5 in Pac-12 play, in his seventh season, upping his career record to 90-97. Of the six Pac-12 wins, which are the most ASU has had, two came against Utah, two against Oregon and two against Arizona. The highlight of the season was the team sweeping the regular season series against Arizona for the first time since 2014. Not only did the Sun Devils win both teams while the Wildcats were ranked, but ASU came back down 2-0 in both duals to win 3-2.

With six seasons under his belt, Keenan pushed the program to a 17-15 record in 2022, the second-highest win total in ASU history. The Sand Devils earned five Pac-12 wins, which is the most they’ve had in the seven years of conference play. Additionally, there was a five-dual win streak early in the year, which is tied for the second-longest streak in program history. Arizona State earned two ranked wins, both against in-state rival Arizona, one in the regular season and one in the Pac-12 Championships.

In Keenan’s fifth season as head coach in 2021, ASU had an overall record of 10-12. Of the 10 wins, four were sweeps. The Sand Devils had a 4-7 Pac-12 record, picking up wins over Washington, Utah and No. 11 Cal. The season ended at the Pac-12 Championships where Arizona State was able to earn one victory, edging out a 3-2 win over Washington.

In 2020, Keenan was entering his fourth season. The team was ranked for three different weeks until the season was cut short due to concerns regarding COVID-19. During that time, the team did not lose to an unranked team, continuing the trend from 2019.

In Keenan’s third season as the head coach in 2019, ASU earned a 21-14 record, tallying the most wins in program history. The victory total beat out the previous high of 16, reached in 2017. The season culminated with Arizona State’s best outing at the Pac-12 Championship, winning two matches for the first time. ASU beat three top-20 teams during the season: No. 16 Grand Canyon, No. 10 Cal and No. 20 Stanford. Additionally, the Sun Devils did not lose a single match to an unranked team in 2019.

Brad Keenan was named the head coach of the Sun Devil beach volleyball program on Friday, May 13, 2016.

Keenan made his professional beach volleyball debut in 2006, and has since earned 25 top-three finishes on the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) tour.  He was named the 2006 Rookie of the Year, and earned Most Improved Player accolades in 2007. In 2014 he was recognized as the AVP’s Best Server. He also spent seven years with the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), from 2009-15.

Keenan joined the Concordia University men’s volleyball program in 2015, where he earned his Master’s in Exercise and Sports Science. He has also served as a volunteer assistant with the USA Women’s National Team, Balboa Bay Volleyball Club, Surf City Volleyball Club, and with the Fountain Valley High School Varsity Volleyball program.
