Jesper Kennegard has earned honorable mention All-America honors by the Golf Coaches Association of America as he led the Sun Devils to the 2008 Pac-10 title and a tie for 17th at the NCAA Championships held in late May. The Pac-10 title, the eighth for head coach Randy Lein in his 16 years at ASU, was especially impressive as the teams that finished first (2008 NCAA champion UCLA), second (Stanford, the defending 2007 NCAA champion) and third (USC, the 2008 NCAA West Regional champion and 2007 Pac-10 champion) were all from the Pac-10 as ASU won the event in a playoff with USC.
Kennegard earned All-Pac-10 first-team honors and his 72.16 stroke average is the fourth-best in program history by a freshman, behind only Alejandro Canizares (71.65 in 2002-2003), Todd Demsey (72.10 in 1991-92) and Phil Mickelson (72.14 in 1988-89). That trio each won at least one NCAA title in their career.
