Five Men's Golfers Earn Pac-10 All-Academic Honors

June 18, 2003

Five golfers from the ASU men's team were named to the Pac-10 All-Academic Team on Wednesday. Brett Johnson and Nick Manthey, who will both be seniors next year, were awarded spots on the first team with GPA's of 3.53 in Marketing and 3.95 in Finance, respectively.

Manthey earned his second spot on the Pac-10 first team. Johnson also received his second award after getting honorable mention in 2002.

Other Sun Devils to receive awards were Kurt Mayr, Pat Moore and Jesse Mueller. Mayr, who received honorable mention in 2002, was named to the second team with a 3.33 GPA in Kinesiology. Both Moore and Mueller made honorable mention.

Mueller's naming to the team comes on the heels of his eighth place finish in last weekend's 88th Southwest Men's Amateur held at Karsten Golf Course in which he set a course record by shooting a second round 62.

Mueller, who will be a junior next fall, shot rounds of 71-62-70-72 for a 14-under 274 at the tournament. He competed in 10 tournaments during the school season with two top-ten finishes and a 73.97 stroke average.

ASU finished sixth in this year's NCAA Championships.
