2011 SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON TIMELINE
The top-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils win the 2011 NCAA Women's College World Series title to secure the program's second National Championship. The title, ASU's second in four seasons, marks the 400th NCAA Championship in Pac-10 Conference history.
Arizona State defeated Florida, 7-2 Tuesday, to win the best-of-three series 2-0 to secure the 138th NCAA title in school history.
In an offensive showing for the ages, the No. 1 Sun Devil Softball team pasted 14 runs with five home runs in one of the most explosive Game One of the WCWS in history as they ran off with a 14-4 win over the No. 4 Florida Gators. Dallas Escobedo moved to 36-3 overall on the year as ASU moved to 59-6 on the year and one win from a second NCAA Title. The seven home runs hit in the game tie a WCWS record.
A masterful performance by Dallas Escobedo, who struck out eight for a complete-game shutout, saw the No. 1 Arizona State Softball team collect a 4-0 win over the No. 11 Baylor Bears Sunday to advance to the NCAA WCWS Championship Series for the second time in program history. In a nailbiting game for the ages, Annie Lockwood played hero of the night as Dallas Escobedo threw the game of her life giving No. 1 ASU Softball a walk-off 6-5 win over No. 4 Florida to propel them into Championship Sunday at the Women's College World Series. Escobedo threw a career-high 174 pitches to move to 34-3 on the year while ASU improves to 57-6 on the year and a perfect 7-0 in postseason play.
The marquee game proved its worth Thursday night as a pitching duel broke out with the No. 1 ASU Sun Devil Softball Team proving their worth, edging No. 9 Oklahoma 3-1 in front a standing-room only sold crowd at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium. Dallas Escobedo struck out six en route to a 33-3 record while leading the Sun Devils to their current 56-6 status. Oklahoma's Keilani Ricketts took the loss to fall to 29-14 on the year and drop OU to 41-18. |

54 student-athletes were named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-American teams Wednesday afternoon which included Sun Devils Dallas Escobedo, Kaylyn Castillo and Katelyn Boyd, who were all named to the First Team, making it six consecutive seasons that ASU Softball has had at least one All-American.
No. 1 Arizona State (55-6) is once again Oklahoma City bound as the top-ranked Sun Devils defeated the 16th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies (44-17) 4-2 in the NCAA Super Regional from Tempe, Ariz., Friday.
With the bases loaded and two outs on the board, senior Kaylyn Castillo belted a walk-off two-RBI single to send the top-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils (54-6) one game closer to a Women's College World Series reprise in Oklahoma City with a 3-2 victory over Texas A&M (44-14) in game one of the NCAA Super Regional in Tempe, Ariz. |

The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America announced today the Top 10 Finalists for the 2011 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, which included Arizona State junior infielder, Katelyn Boyd. The honor will be awarded May 31 at the athlete banquet of the 2011 NCAA Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City. The award, which is considered the most prestigious honor in Division I women's collegiate softball, is designed to recognize outstanding athletic achievement by female collegiate softball players across the country.
A slightly sluggish start blossomed into a 6-1 win Sunday afternoon as the No. 1 Sun Devil Softball Team took off with yet another postseason win over San Diego State. Dallas Escobedo pitched ASU to the win to move to 29-3 overall while ASU now moves to 53-6 on the season and 3-0 in postseason action. The offense decided to put it in gear early as Katelyn Boyd dug in to hit her sixth lead-off home run of the season, which leads the NCAA. The longball also gives her 17 on the season to tie her for third in ASU single-season records.
Another offensive showcase awaited No. 1 Arizona State Softball Saturday afternoon as they came out for their second game of the NCAA postseason to take down Long Beach State 8-0 (5) for their 23rd run-rule of the season. Dallas Escobedo took the win to move to 29-3 on the season while ASU improves to 52-6 while advancing to Championship Sunday. |

The No. 1 ASU Softball team opened the 2011 postseason in style Friday afternoon as they slammed a 10-0 (5) win over North Dakota State to move to 51-6 on the year while Dallas Escobedo moves to 28-3 while leading ASU into Saturday's winner's bracket.
The NFCA decided on the 2011 All-Region All-Americans Thursday which saw ASU place six members of the team placed on First and Second Team. Named to First Team were Freshman Dallas Escobedo and Senior Kaylyn Castillo while Second Team members include: Katelyn Boyd, Krista Donnenwirth, Talor Haro and Annie Lockwood. The six match the high of the 2008 team which saw five First Team members and one Second Team member.

In a vote of the league's eight head coaches, the 2011 All Pac-10 team was selected and released Wednesday afternoon which saw Pac-10 Champions, ARIZONA STATE take home 15 awards, including freshman Dallas Escobedo who was named the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and Clint Myers was named the Pac-10 Coach of the Year.
Another historic moment was added to the already storied 2011 season as the Arizona State Softball Team for the first time in program history was selected as the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, which will see play start Friday. ASU will host North Dakota State, Long Beach State and San Diego State in the Tempe Regional with ASU's first game slated for Friday at 5 p.m. aired on ESPNU.
`Twas a night of celebration Thursday as the No. 1 Arizona State Softball Team locked up the second Pac-10 title in program history with a 3-1 win over No. 11 Stanford. The win pushes ASU's Pac-10 win streak to 12, the longest in program history as Escobedo took the W to move 26-3 on the year. The Sun Devils are now 49-5 overall and 16-3 in Pac-10 play as Stanford drops to 37-14 and 9-10 in conference action. |

With Katelyn Boyd and Kaylyn Castillo going three-for-four at the plate and Mackenzie Popescue dealing in the circle, giving up only four hits, the top-ranked ASU Softball team collected their third straight Pac-10 series sweep Sunday afternoon, downing No. 13 Washington 6-2. The win moves Popescue to 13-2 on the year as ASU improves to 48-5 overall and 15-3 in Pac-10 play with a two game lead with only three left to play. UW drops to 32-13 overall and 7-11 in conference action as well.
In one of the greatest games Arizona State Softball history, the No. 2 Sun Devils mounted an extraordinary come-from-behind 13-10 win over in-state rival, No. 7 Arizona Friday night in Tucson. Hillary Bach and the indomitable ASU offense were the heroines on the night as they came back from a 9-1 deficit to win for only the third time in 20 years in Tucson. Bach moved to 10-0 on the year while ASU moves to 41-5 overall and 8-3 in Pac-10 play. The Wildcats drop to 36-9 and 7-4 in Pac-10 play as well as dropping a point to ASU in the State Farm Territorial Cup. |

With two home runs from Mandy Urfer and a complete-game shutout from Dallas Escobedo, the No. 1 Arizona State softball team collected their third Pac-10 series win of the year and second consecutive against defending NCAA champion, UCLA Sunday with a 5-0 win. ASU is now 39-5 overall and 6-3 in Pac-10 play with Escobedo moving to 19-3 on the year. Donna Kerr took the loss to fall to 11-3 on the season while her Bruins drop to 29-9 overall and 5-4 in conference action.
The Sun Devil Softball Team returned to the top of the rankings Tuesday morning as both the NFCA and USA Softball polls released the Sun Devils as the No. 1 team in the country. A ranking they haven't held since the 2008 NCAA Championship season. The Sun Devils are currently 37-4 overall on the year and 4-2 two weeks into Pac-10 play with a series against defending NCAA Champion UCLA awaiting this weekend. |

Two home runs from Annie Lockwood fueled with a seven strikeout performance from Dallas Escobedo led the way Saturday afternoon as the No. 4 Sun Devil Softball team topped the No. 8 Cal Golden Bears for the second straight day 7-2. Escobedo took the win to move to 17-1 on the year while the Sun Devils now 35-2 on the year and 2-0 in conference play as Cal falls to 21-6 in the season and 0-2 in conference play.
Hillary Bach took over fifth place in ASU Career wins history Sunday as she collected her 64th career win to move to 9-0 on the year with her offense also blazing a trail led with Lacy Goodman's second grand slam of the season as the No. 5 Sun Devils topped UCSB 9-1 (5). UCSB moves to 12-14 on the year as the Sun Devils improve to 33-2 overall and push their home winning streak to 25 games. |

The No. 5 Arizona State Softball team saw their 23 game winning streak come to a close as they split Day One of the Judi Garmen Classic with a 5-1 win over Penn State to start the day before falling in a gritty 1-0 loss to No. 6 Michigan in what proved to be the pitcher's duel everyone expected. Mackenzie Popescue took the win over Penn State to move to 8-1 on the year while Dallas Escobedo took her first loss of her career to fall to 12-1 while ASU moves to 27-2 on the year.
Dallas Escobedo's career-high 16 strikeouts and a .500 day at the plate from Krista Donnenwirth blazed the trail for the No. 7 ASU Softball team who topped Weber State 12-0 (5) and Virginia Tech 10-3 to close out the Diamond Devil Invitational and keep their winning streak alive at 20 games. Mackenzie Popescue took the win over WSU to move to 7-1 while Escobedo moved to 11-0 on the year as ASU holds at 24-1.

The tenth-ranked Sun Devil Softball team opened their 2011 campaign in style Thursday night as Day One of the Kajikawa Classic kicked-off with a 17-0 (5) win for the Sun Devils of the Western Michigan Broncos. A State was powered by stellar pitching by Dallas Escobedo for her first collegiate win and a red-hot offense that posted 17 runs off 12 hits to rocket them to a 1-0 start to the season.
The Sun Devils Softball program is looking bright as a member of the incoming freshman class of 2011 stepped onto the international stage this summer to take a 3-0 record and help lead the USA Softball Women's Junior Team to a Gold Medal at the 2011 Pan American Championships.
