Arizona State 19, Sac St 7 | Game Notes
(Sept. 6, 2019)
Quick Hits
- Arizona State improved to 7-1 at home and 5-0 in non-conference regular season matchups under Herm Edwards
- Cristian Zendejas became the first Sun Devil since Zane Gonzalez to make four field goals in a game (at UTSA on Sept. 16, 2016)
- The Sun Devils allowed only 42 rushing yards, their fewest since UTSA totaled two rushing yards in the 2018 season opener.
- ASU is now 37-10 in games played at Sun Devil Stadium since the 2012 season
- By posting more than five points, the Sun Devils extend the longest active FBS streak for consecutive games scoring more than 7 points, currently doing so in 136 straight games.
- Gave ASU consecutive 2-0 starts in Herm Edwards' tenure as head coach.
- Moved ASU to 2-0 over Sacramento State in series history and 39-14-4 all-time against the Big Sky Conference. All 14 losses came against Northern Arizona and all happened prior to 1939. The Sun Devils have never lost a game to a Big Sky opponent in the modern era.
- Eno Benjamin finished the game Friday with 163 total yards of offense (94 receiving, 69 rushing).
- It’s his eighth-straight game tallying more than 100 yards from scrimmage.
- The 94 yards receiving were a career-high and the most by a Sun Devil running back since Kalen Ballage had 114 against No. 13 Utah on Nov. 10, 2016.
- The Sun Devil defense has been in midseason form early in 2019, holding their opponents to single-digit scoring outputs in back-to-back games. It is the first time ASU has accomplished this feat since shutting out Washington State (11/15) and allowing nine points to UCLA (11/28) in a pair of wins during the 2008 season.
- The 14 points allowed through the first two games of the season are the fewest allowed by ASU to start a season since 1985, when the Sun Devils allowed just 12 points through their first two games (12 points at Michigan State, 0 points vs. Pacific).
- Jayden Daniels threw for a career-high 304 yards and one touchdown in the win.
- With his 72-yard touchdown pass to Eno Benjamin in the fourth quarter, Daniels became the first ASU quarterback ever to throw a touchdown pass over 70 yards in consecutive games (had a 77-yard pass to Brandon Aiyuk last week).
- He is the first Sun Devil freshman quarterback since Rudy Carpenter in 2008 to throw for 100 yards in a game.

Through two games, Aiyuk has 238 receiving yards, surpassing the 229 yards Harry posted in the first two games last season. He also gave the Sun Devils a spark in the return game with a 38-yard punt return this evening.
- Aiyuk’s 238 receiving yards through two games are the most by a Sun Devil since Michael Jones had 241 combined yards in games against NAU and Stanford to open up the 2008 season.
- Six of Michael Turk’s ten punts have gone longer than 50 yards and landed inside the 20.
- Turk pinned the Hornets inside their 10-yard line twice.

Luis Zendejas is the former all-time leading scorer in Sun Devil history before he was passed in 2016 by Lou Groza Award winner Zane Gonzalez.
- Zendejas became the first Sun Devil kicker since 2016 to make four field goals in a game, when Zane Gonzalez kicked four against UTSA. The four field goals are tied for sixth in a single game in school history.
- Zendejas is a perfect 7-for-7 on field goals through the first two games of the season and is 4-for-4 on extra points.
