Women's Golf sits in fourth after opening round of Mason Rudolph Championship

In their Sun Devil debuts, Amelia Wan and Natalia Aparicio both shot under par to open the weekend.

FRANKLIN, Tn. – Sun Devil Women’s Golf opened its season at the Mason Rudolph Championship (par 71/6,390 yards) sitting in fourth place after 18 holes Friday in Franklin, Tn. Sophomore Amelia Wan, making her debut for the Maroon and Gold sits in a tie for sixth after filing a 69 (-2) which led the team.

Playing in the 25th edition of the Mason Rudolph Championship and appearing in the field for the fourth year in a row, Arizona State shot 283, (-1)  in the first round and sit in fourth place following 18 holes of competition. Florida holds the lead at -6 (277) and Arizona State is two strokes back of Purdue who is at -3 sitting in second place. ASU is one stroke behind tournament host, Vanderbilt who shot -2 (282).

Freshman Natalia Aparicio made her collegiate debut and was the first on the course, shooting 1-under, 70, to put the Sun Devils in red figures after the opening round. She closed out her round with a birdie on the par-5, 18th to secure her first career under par round as a Sun Devil. Fifth Year Patience Rhodes shot a 71 (E) and closed out her round with a pair of birdies on par 5’s.

Arizona State will begin the second round tomorrow starting with Fai Rubrong at 7:20 a.m. MST, followed by Kate Dillon at 7:30 a.m., Patience Rhodes at 7:40 a.m., Natalia Aparicio at 7:50 a.m., then Amelia Wan at 8:00 a.m. all on hole 1. Isabella Cioe will tee off at 7:43 a.m. on the 10th hole.

History at the Mason Rudolph Championship
Sun Devil Women’s Golf will appear at the Vanderbilt Legends Club near Nashville for the fourth straight season. In 2025, the team finished fourth at 8-over (860) with three top-20 showings for the team. Among returners, Patience Rhodes was tied for 13th (+1/214) and Kate Dillon was tied for 54th (+12/225). In 2023, Arizona State (-13/851) finished in fourth place as a team after posting a 285 (-3).

  • In 2024, Rhodes shot 10-under (206) to tie for fifth. She opened the tournament with a 68 (-4) and followed it up with a 67 (-5) before finishing with a 71 (-1) over the three days. 

The Sun Devils matched what was then a program-low 54-hole score vs. par (-25) with a third-place finish back in 2017, their first appearance in the event since 2013. ASU also competed at the Mason Rudolph Invitational from 2007-09 and 2005. The Sun Devils will aim to continue their solid play this weekend as the course is a potential NCAA Regional in the postseason in 2027.
