Bowen Mauss had a solid freshman season last year at Arizona State.
When you add in his summer of 2026 his sophomore season continues to look very promising.
Mauss -- the back-to-back Utah State Amateur champion after winning the event is July-- has advanced to the round of 32 Thursday morning at the U.S. Amateur with a 1-up win over Virgilio Paz in the round of 64. He went 1-over 141 (68-73) and tied for 33rd to qualify. He will take on Jack Whaley at 5:15 a.m. MST Thursday.
Mauss freshman season
Mauss -- who entred the week ranked No. 201 in the World Amatuer Golf Rankings -- had three top-10 finishes in freshman season, as he tied for sixth at Oregon State Invitational, tied for fith at the Desimone Invitational in March leading ASU to a convincing 20-stroke win and was the top Sun Devil finisher at Maridoe Intercollegiate as he tied for fith.
Four Sun Devils have won the U.S. Amateur title, with the win prior to Ballester coming 26 years ago when Eugene, Ore., native Jeff Quinney beat James Driscoll in 39 holes in New Jersey.
