Just like he won the 127th Utah State Amateur in 2025, now 19 years old and a sophomore-to-be-in-few-weeks, Bowen Mauss became the first back-to-back winner of the world’s oldest, continuously held, amateur championship Saturday afternoon with a convincing win in the 128th version.
He is the first repeat winner since Sun Devil Preston Summerhays in 2018 and 2019.
Mauss, from Corner Canyon High School, topped thirty-eight-year-old mid-amateur Cameron Crawford at Soldier Hollow with a great early start, winning holes three and four, and he never looked back. Mauss eagled the seventh hole and had a five-hole lead after the first 18.
Mauss won 9 and 7 and earned an invitation to the United States Amateur next month at Marion Golf Club in Pennsylvania, and a spot in October's Bank of Utah Championship PGA Tour event at Black Desert Resort.
“I definitely plan on playing there. I’m excited to make my second PGA Tour start, and I hope to make the best of it.”
Ed Kingsley, 90 years ago, was the last to win three consecutive championships. The 2027 championships will be held at Willow Creek Country Club in Sandy.
Mauss had three top-10 finishes in his rookie year at ASU, as he tied for sixth at the Oregon State Invitational and was the top Sun Devil finisher as he tied for fifth at the Desimone Invitational in March, leading ASU to a convincing 20-stroke win. He also led the team at Maridoe Intercollegiate as ASU earned a runner-up finish, and he tied for eighth.
